Fox has thrown Wootton, and the channel to a lesser extent, under the bus. I really can't decide which I feel less sorry for.
Thing is that Fox's emails don't exonerate him, there's a bit of a gap between the talking point on the guest briefing and what he said, he took it a lot further

Now Dan Wootton has been suspended, though it took until the 4pm top of the hour bulletin with Polly Middlehurst to be reported on GB News itself, after Sky News and the BBC were reporting on it.

Isn't it funny how quickly things can move if it's about the bottom line?
Based on precedent (humiliating and demeaning someone on air plus causing offence), this could easily result in a fine of £200k+ and as mentioned in my earlier post, even the most "we advertise anywhere" brands are most likely currently re-assessing whether it is worth being associated with GBN.

If there is one, they clearly dance very close to it a lot of the time, so this all seems rather inevitable. If you play with fire, you're going to get burnt at some point.

A "news channel", even one based on opinion rather than reporting, should never resort to attacking other journalists. You challenge the argument, not the arguer.

Indeed. Challenging viewpoints is natural. Attacking another human being is beyond the pale. If GBNews does crash and burn then it will be because of this. I hope it doesn't because in some ways it has been a blast of fresh air.

If the screenshots are correct, then even after the incident the attitude towards on-air standards and controlling guests seemed to be 'it's the gallery's problem'.

Guess that's what happens when complaints against them which were dismissed are treated more as 'woohoo we can go that far without getting in trouble', rather than 'that was close, maybe we should take it as a lesson regardless'.
