RE: GB News - Jon - 29-01-2023

Listening to a bit of GBN Radio, and the first two ad breaks have just been filler. When are do they usually go out? I don’t think radio has quite the limitations on breaks as TV so thought I would have heard some by now?

Edit: 4 breaks in and finally 1 random ad for the Asda Rewards app, “GB News loves the Asda Rewards App”.

RE: GB News - JMT1985 - 29-01-2023

The problem with GB News style for me is the fact that one or two shows they have seem to define the whole channel.

The Dan Wootton show seems to be the case in point - his show reminds me a lot of Fox News style of debate, where on any debate the left wing panel member are always outnumbered.

You have a right leaning host, a centre right commentator, a very right wing commentator and then your token liberal, who would be classified more a centrist than left wing on other TV shows. So in effect the liberal, left winger is up against three opponents on a debate. He/she can not win, or even get their view out, as the others shout them down, especially the host. Pure Fox News style designed by the late Roger Ailes.

His show is just one show, but because of the way he produces his show, gets the headlines and his bombastic style of presenting, seems to totally overshadow the style the rest of the shows on the channel has.

This is only the 4th full quarter for GB News so we have no year on year comparison yet.  Next quarter will be more interesting as we start to see if the year on year comparisons will begin positively or whether they will slip back down to about the level they were last year.

I wonder if moving Patrick Christys to the afternoon slot had something to do with it. They were better off keeping Colin Brazier in there. Also I don't rate Beverly Turner in the mornings, she doesn't offer much in terms of variety or that certain factor when it comes to breaking news.

I think they need to do more 'GB News Live' programmes just like the one with Mark Longhurst but from 9am-6pm with two other presenters hosting before and after Longhurst.

RE: GB News - Kojak - 02-02-2023

There are rumours that Mark Steyn has left - he has deleted all mention of GB News from his Twitter bio, and allegedly he is not at all happy about staff having to do Ofcom training.

Isn't one of Steyn's shows under investigation by Ofcom?

Interesting… no explicit mention of GBN there. Very wild guess, but perhaps he’ll be continuing his show independently?
