I think the telling thing is if it happened the other way round and an established news presenter was elected to Parliament they would, traditionally at least, be expected to quit their broadcasting role.
Becouse an Impartial NEWS presenter would be giving up that role to be an MP, and any media appearance wouldn't be as an impartial news presenter.

Be that as it may, for the large majority of the population it is seen as wrong that a sitting MP has a show on a news channel (or any TV show for that matter).
Today's Yougov poll finds 71% of the population saying it is fairly or completely inappropriate (29% fairly inappropriate and 42% completely inappropriate).
That is the view across the board; even Conservative voters agree at also 71% (30% fairly inappropriate and 41% completely inappropriate).

I don't really agree with Lammy having a show on LBC, either - but we are where we are. I think Diane Abbott on This Week was different because she wasn't actually presenting the show, but rather was a commentator (and she was always paired up with a Tory anyway, for balance).

I think George Galloway was the first serving MP to have their own regular radio show on talkSPORT In the noughties. He returned when TalkRadio relaunched in 2016 as well.

It is a daily question but the numbers above are the weighted final result (https://yougov.co.uk/about/panel-methodology/#daily ). The result shouldn't be a surprise as every single poll about MPs' second jobs shows a large majority of the public wanting to see them banned. So the same would naturally apply to TV presenting.

To be fair, I think if you asked the British public, in such a poll whether MPs should be allowed holidays (even during parliamentary breaks) or get paid more than minimum wage you’d probably have the majority of people saying no. Of course the later would mean only the likes of Rees-Mogg could afford to be an MP. So I think such a survey should be taken with a pinch of salt. For me balance of opinion should be represented in who’s leading shows not just who appears on them, so if you’ve got a few Tory MP presenters you should have a few Labour ones too.
