Bastani has something to do with Novara Media doesn't he? They're basically GB News for Corbynites and yet media organisations will book him and Ash Sarkar as they make for supposedly good television even if like some of the more dubious talking heads from the right on GB News also spout nonsense for ratings/hits.

He founded Novara. I mentioned his name because he is making more and more appearances on GBN as a pundit, so can see them starting to use him as their token 'leftie'.

RE: GB News - Stockland Hillman - 03-03-2023

Should have been clearer Kojak, my reference 'no such view were expressed ' was to the Bev Turner point.

I'm aware of the Steyn comments and note he no longer works on the channel, and Olivers point is based on the simple science fact that a) all drugs carry side effects and risk b) the risk/reward balance for young people is very very finely balanced , which is why many nations have a changed their vax strategy to target those where the ballance is more in favour of using vaccine is stronger; this shouldn't be controversial - it's textbook medical degree stuff.

The GBNews problem is they haven't found an opinion format that works outside of Farage, maybe that's twitter extremism causing that - no boring centrist will take a complicated position as they'll get hung for 'siding' one way or the other becouse they don't follow the orthodoxy for one side. Leaving us with just hard right and hard left voices.

Look at The Talk on TalkTV - it's so heavily complianced and has panellists scared to go hard one way or the other, mixed with usual channel talking heads. It just ends up boring TV

I apologise, Stockland - have edited my original post accordingly!

I do completely agree with you on the lacklustre opinion side, and with your points on Twitter (my word, what HAS that place done to political discourse? But I digress…)

If there were a real mix of left, right and centrist voices on GBN - none of whom were afraid to say what they thought - I do think it could be something very wonderful. A true ‘free speech channel’, as opposed to one that makes out it’s such, then sacks a host for using his free speech to take the knee. It’s a shame, because some of their news coverage is actually all right. It’s just the opinion that needs work - and A LOT of it!

Arlene Foster is to become a regular cover on the network and present a number of documentaries for the channel.

If ever we needed more reasons to avoid this channel, that's it.

RE: GB News - KrazyKei - 05-03-2023

I like the concept of GB News Investigates because it is an opportunity to be expansive with whatever they investigate and bring it to the public eye. I hope they can make this a weekly showing because I believe there are lot of things going on behind the scenes that are somewhat sinister.

"We investigated this thing we had preconceived notions about... and guess what we found? Stuff that will reinforce opinions we know you have already, because that's our bread-and-butter!"

You can say that about ANY editorial decisions to cover a particular topic, so its the laziest of tropes to throw at a broadcaster.

Extended features always risk excluding,  minimising or dismissing arguments and conclusions that don't fit its narrative structure.  Sky News's Climate Show features springs to mind; but of course that's entertainment content not regulated news isn't it?
