Alastair Stewart has retired from full time presenting and will just work on big events like the King's Coronation.

Not the wisest decision to bring back Grimes after what he was alleged to have done to a colleague which led to him losing his gig in the first place.

'Alleged'.   Anyway he's one of the four regulars on The Saturday Five along with Emily Carver, Benjamin Butterworth, Albie Amankona who will be joined by a guest each week.

I'd noticed Alastair had significantly reduced his time on Twitter talking about news or politics, his posts now mostly about his family or pets, so was expecting news along these lines. Hope he enjoys his retirement, I didn't agree with all his political views but he remains one of my favourite broadcasters.

RE: GB News - mccanmat - 22-03-2023

For the last few months Alastair seemed to have been absent more often from his show, often seemingly leaning into the autocue more and peering over his glasses with only half his face on screen at times…

Perhaps he just got to that point where his love for the job waned as well

Tory Deputy Chairman Lee Anderson is being paid £100k annually, paid monthly for his GB News show

RE: GB News - mccanmat - 22-03-2023

Any thoughts on who will replace big Al in the schedule? Perhaps Emily Carver, Arlene Foster or Martin Daubney?

Something else for Ofcom to look at?

Why would this be an Ofcom Issue?  What's the Broadcasting Code violation that you see?

What is on the regulated broadcast channel?

Why would OFCOM get involved in that? It’s an opinion piece. They are allowed to broadcast opinions in that slot.

Its like saying Ron and Lana were robbed on Love Island. It's just observational comment.

Because its parliamentary It's above the laws of the land and usual court procedures and standards (those are for us little people)

It's not a impartiality issue; it's not 'political' the the sence its not an issue for the electorate; fairness doesn't apply as it's protected by both parliamentary privilege of  the contents of the hearing and comment about it

It’s not something that concerns OFCOM but I do have to say, despite liking a lot of GB News’s output, that things like this really let them down.

Especially the fact that Wootton’s show has the tagline: ‘No Spin, No Bias, No Censorship’.

No issue at all with Dan sharing his opinions and I’ll happily listen whether I agree or disagree, but at least a) be honest about the biases of the show and b) try and be balanced.
