That's GB News' take on it... I suspect it was more a case of them realising they needed some straight news content alongside the opinion, so introduced the half-hourly bulletins.

RE: GB News - i.h - 29-05-2023

for some reason I'm watching That Interview.

however my question is this - why are all the ads of businesses in Wales and look a little too cheap n nasty for even ITV to show as local ads? The biggest name seems to be Sky (and IIRC they do GBN's ad sales, so that is not surprising)

There was a lot of feedback at the time about the channel lacking formal news bulletins and some felt it was stopping them from completely ditching other news channels. I don’t know how much that actually influenced the decision but it was certainly commented on a lot at the time.

There was an article in one of the posh magazines (think it was The New Statesman) about a year after GB News launched. In it, it was said that GB management felt they needed something like 25% neutral, straight news content in order to keep on Ofcom's good side, which is where the news bulletins came in.

This was my main takeaway from watching the interview tonight… a very strange set of adverts! Clearly businesses in Wales have a lot of money? One of them was for a showroom in Swansea….

The Welsh ads have been commented on a lot and it’s not just GB News, it’s Talk TV as well both sold by Sky. Yes, they’re going to be cheaper than advertising on most channels but doesn’t explain why there is so many Welsh ads rather than smaller businesses from other areas of the UK. My guess Sky have got a particularly good sales team in South Wales?

Why was there no ads for washing powered or liquid? Ie bread and butter of ads?

If I ever need to sell any gold, at least I know I’ll get the best price if I drive 200 miles to Swansea

There has been a boycott of GB News by major brands since just after launch.
