The current BBC News theme is one of my favourites. Got to be one of the best of all time.
"Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"'s theme is definitely up there as well.

The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder. Certainly a quieter, but still vibrant feel to nighttime, compared to its more upbeat competitors.

First, building what Neil Jones posted above. I really dig The Art Of Noise's (Theme From) The Krypton Factor. But I really dig Anne Dudley's - A (P)Art Of Noise herself - own take on the theme herself for the 1995 series, very dark and moody. Plus an honorary shout out to Mike Woolmans for providing the incidental music for this era.

Second, is Zack Laurence's theme to Interceptor, Rock Revolution. Based upon Chopin's Revolutionary Etude. It just ticks all the boxes for me. Here is the single mix.
