Hopefully with the introduction of Vernon Kay they can get all three done as a job lot. It's ridiculous that 2 of the 5 main weekday shows are without a proper jingle package.

Can’t say I’d even noticed. Hardly ridiculous - probably a choice.

That's a really good point - I'd never thought about this before (not many people do, I imagine!) but do the presenters have a say over their jingles?

Exactly, and when you arrange to start one job the weekend after you finish the other in this industry it's to be expected your outgoing employer may have other ideas and prioritise protecting their product.    We also don't know how much advance notice the BBC had when he did quit - it seemed a bit off for GHR to immediately announced he was signing with them rather than giving it at least 24 hours.

I think had Ken been going to a different slot on GHR (say a weekend show) the BBC wouldn't have felt the need to protect their morning slot and kept him on air as long as possible.

From listening on to the jingles frequently of late over on the Wise Buddah website. I would say that even though the jingles since 2013 were designed to work with the following: "(Presenter Name), 88-91FM, BBC Radio 2". I'd say with the ramps and shotguns being used more predominantly, especially with the greater mention of BBC Sounds. Would one say the jingles is evolving more and so long as that 'core' jingle set doesn't change. It seems to be working out.

Wisebuddah of course is Mark Goodier's company- who himself is on GHR and Ken is actually replacing!

In fact, haven't there been times where Mark's filled in on the breakfast show on Radio 2, then been on GHR an hour later?

I really hate the replacement of the sung ‘88 to 91 FM’ part of the jingles with the spoken ‘listen live on the BBC Sounds app’.

I appreciate the reason for pushing Sounds over FM frequencies these days, but this feels like a cheap, sticking plaster solution, sounds cluttered, and ruins a fantastic jingle package IMO.

I hope at some point that they get them fully resung.

The lack of new sung jingles for Owain / Scott made me think there might a bit of a refresh coming. Equally could be just cost.

The travel jingle change last year was a bit of a random one. I wonder why they removed the singing. Again, is it related to cost somehow?

There’s been discussion about features and I think that’s been lost in the discussion about presenter changes at Radio 2. Steve Wright and Simon Mayo’s shows were littered with features that require production. Think how much work was needed to create the factoids for example, or booking guests for Steve Wright or Simon Mayo to interview.

The changes have led to a much cheaper, slimmed-down offering. The half-wowwer, the shiny happy playlist, the handbag thing Michelle Visage does - these are all just songs played back-to-back. Back-to-back tracks are far more common today across the station.

It’s cut backs.

That's true, they have made the person who chopped every millisecond of silence out of Steve's interviews.

On the flip side, Virgin and GHR have had to start doing some production to their shows which previously wouldn't have had any

They started playing the sungless travel jingle when the Queen died as it would have been bad taste to play sung jingles during the mourning period, somehow they used this as an excuse to get rid of the sung version permanently.

Hi Steve,
Love the show! Why does none of your guests ever take a breath?
