To add to that, I expect a lot of listeners will be driving - so even less reason to overcomplicate the quiz like they have. Still, I’m sure it’ll all come together in time.

To be fair, I never really understood why the questions on Popmaster were worth three points each, or six for bonuses. It would have been simpler for them to be worth one or two respectively.

And as an occasional, casual listener, the scoring for Champions League Popmaster always struck me as somewhat Numberwang-esque.

Maybe just so scores sounded better than they were. Even if you just got one question correct, 3 sounds better than 1.
A bit like when a hotel starts its first floor of rooms at 100 - it sounds grander.

Ken did on occasion give 1 or 2 points for a partial answer.

The hotel thing makes sense, it makes finding the room easier.

A bit overly complicated which may hurt the playalong factor - basically each question is worth 1 point more than the last, but if you get one wrong the next question is then back to 1 point (though you don't lose points already scored).    Also a Joker to be played per contestant which doubles the value of one question of their choice, before hearing the question.

Other than that the features of Ken Bruce's show such as the Love Song, Record of the Week and Album of the Week were all present today, as was Tracks of My Years. New Piano Room sessions were also announced today.
The scoring was the main issue with the quiz, I noted Gary himself said they were trying to create a spreadsheet to help keep track of them, so I can imagine it may evolve over the next few weeks.
They've kind of got eight weeks to iron out the issues and can then tweak it when Vernon begins - or if it's a complete disaster replace it with something new.

Most quiz formats seem overly complicated upon there first watch - familarity sorts out many issues.

I can’t imagine they’ve had an awful lot of time, brought forward when Ken’s gardening leave was announced.
Feels like something designed by lawyers rather than creatives - clearly the brief was for something as close to Popmaster as possible without infringing on the format. It's a shame they didn't take more of a risk but understandable why they didn't - plus of course they're working within the confines of Radio 2.

If it doesn’t work, you just replace the quiz when Vernon starts. If it does, you keep it.

Look at many long running game shows and how many of them stay the same as their original incarnation for long. These things are nearly always tweaked to iron out kinks and improve things, I can't see how this will be any different.

Why not do a radio version of The Hit List? Or bring back Bits and Pieces?

Which long running ones changed?

Millionaire, Deal or No Deal, Pointless, Radio 2’s Couch Potatoes - invariably they get tweaked over the years.

The Weakest Link and The Chase are the same format as launch, I think?
