Netflix - gottago - 23-01-2023

I switched to the ad tier when it launched and it was absolutely packed with ads - pre-show and multiple times during. But now they seem to have completely stopped - I watched a full 90 minute doc last night with no ads whatsoever.

There was a news story last month that they hadn't managed to switch as many people as they thought they would to the tier so I wonder if it's underperformed so much that they're just not able to sell ads.

Certainly worth switching to if you're not bothered by being able to download and miss out on a handful of restricted shows.

I think in most cases, if you’re going to the effort of parting with £4.99 a month, you’re going to be alright with £6.99. The times I’ve tried Freevee has been all over the place when it comes with to add, sometimes you don’t see any.

I guess it depends if you're watch some niche thing that has no value to advertisers.

True, surely something like Stranger Things is much more attractive to advertisers than a one off documentary.

It doesn't surprise me if the ad supported tier is struggling to sell to advertisers. After all, it's not free. People will either be willing to pay, or not, £2 isn't going to make much difference there.

It was a doc in the top 10 most watched films on the whole service. Nothing I've been watching has had ads over the last few days - mainstream or niche.

Not sure that makes sense, with targeted online advertising you’d think the more niche the better.

Depends if you fit the demographic that the advertisers want.

ITVX apparently had something like 20,000 sub categories of viewer. With all the big data processing going on there's targeted and TARGETED

Netflix is jacking prices up again:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67140876

Basic plan: Up by £1 a month to £7.99 per month
Standard: Unchanged at £10.99 per month
Premium: Up £2 to £17.99 per month

Believe there is no change to the £4.99 offering, though whether this news will push people towards that remains to be seen.

Is the ad version HD?

Think I'll jack it in TBH - Sex Education pretty much the only thing I've watched in last six months and the final season was crap anyway.
