Also, I was watching stuff from Series 4 of Doctor Who on iPlayer yesterday and noticed the DOG has changed to the new logo. The same seems to be true of Series 3 bit not any other series pre-rebrand.

They've done that for the entirety of David Tennant's run as far as I'm aware, I checked Series 2 and it has it. (checked the 2nd episode of Series 2). Strangely the 1997 logo returns when we get to Matt Smith and stays that way until the last few Jodie Whittaker episodes. Not sure why they re-upped only Tennant's run

They'll get to the rest. Probably did the Tenth Doctor era first due to it being the most popular?

And they just added the new logo to the Christopher Eccleston era episodes as well, Still no change for Matt, Peter and Jodie yet

So we can now see farting aliens with the Reith'd logo Tongue

RE: BBC iPlayer - Neil Jones - 10-06-2023

Hm and there was me thinking the logo on the iPlayer was just an overlay plonked on by the player/app while playing/streaming a file. So its actually burnt in.

RE: BBC iPlayer - Joe - 10-06-2023

If you’ve ever used a tool like GetiPlayer you’ll see that it’s present of the video files. Another clue is the consistency with which it’s placed across the platforms - and the fact that when the logo changed, older files retained the previous logo.

It’s added (burnt) as part of the upload workflow.

ITV, in contrast, render their logo separately for ITVX and you can tell because it firstly appears more precise (due to being a vector graphic, presumably) and also moves when you make the video fullscreen.

The BBC have presumably opted to burn-in the logo on purpose, to avoid pirating of their content, but personally I would have taken the opportunity of a logo-change to move to a separate logo as ITV do. It’s more elegant and works better.

I've never seen a logo/DOG on ITVX?

But the old ITV Hub was as you describe, yes.

RE: BBC iPlayer - interestednovice - 10-06-2023

Oh, maybe it’s not shown for on demand content?

So far I’ve only used ITVX to stream ITV1 live, and the ITV 1 DOG was shown but appeared to be not burnt in (rendered later). I assumed it was the same for on demand content.

It certainly used to be for ITV Hub, yes, and that essentially shows that it’s a viable strategy not to burn-in, as a point of comparison.

I've seen BBC content regurgitated by different accounts on multiple social media sites, with mostly positive feedback from the respective audiences.

With all the bad press the BBC has received and the increasing feeling about its dwindling importance/necessity, I can't see the harm of subtly reminding people that the content they are enjoying is from the BBC -- even if it's not via iPlayer and the licence.

I firmly believe that this country and indeed the World would be poorer without the BBC, and the more people that see its value and take pride in it - even within the BBC itself - the better.

(I feel I could have worded this more eloquently; I hope what I'm trying to say comes across)
