CNN had it as their top story since 4pm, initially with "Breaking News" ticker, but, quite expectedly, no non-stop coverage, just several minutes at the TOTH.

BBC (World) News carries the news more as a one-liner well in the second part of their bulletins.

I wonder what is the percentage of anchors and correspondents that were born after his presidency ended, having no recollections of him as then-current President at all...

Probably a small number. Also he was extremely active in his humanitarian works, particularly with Habitat for Humanity in USA following his presidency and. American presidents arent typically discarded into anonymity after their term ends. Most are active with the work done by their their Presidential Libraries and Foundations set up in their name. The Carter Center has been active in fighting disease and other issues around the world.

Quite a lot -- he was president more than 41 years ago (his term ended January 20, 1981). Anyone who was actually a working journalist when Carter was still president would likely be in their 60s or older today. More and more of those people retire every day.

Much of Carter's legacy is from his post-presidency years though. His Carter Center is a big deal, etc.
