Turning into a disaster, there'll be nobody left to do anything in the show at this rate. They'll be dragging people off the street to commentate at this rate.

If we have a Conservative government, people supporting Labour will claim the BBC has “government bias” and look to point out the bias. If we have a Labour government, of course those who are Conservative-supporting would be doing the same thing. Social media, in general, is “populated” largely by people who skew to the left. Large sections of the press, conversely, skew to the right. The BBC has to walk a tightrope with every sensitive issue. It’s partly why it can’t be seen to “let things go” if there is a clamour for action to be taken, and why an apology in this case probably wouldn’t even have worked as certain people would not have allowed this to be brushed under the carpet anyway.
But they should just 'let things go', especially if they are just a storm in a teacup anyway. These things are generally all forgotten about after a day or two anyway. The BBC should be bold, unafraid, confident. It is a byword for quality across the world, and the epitome of public service broadcasting. They ought to remember how much goodwill they have, not just here but internationally, too. Have some balls, for heaven's sake!

It's a brave assumption by the BBC that the programme can go ahead even though it's on air talent are refusing to contribute. There is also the case of the commentators and the editors that are still required to make the show go to air.

I think it's not a foregone conclusion that the show will definitely air tomorrow night. Unsure if there would be legal / contractual complications should the BBC not air football highlights tomorrow night.

Sounds like the BBC may have to use Premier League Productions commentary or Radio commentary:

Might as well just air a Premier League Productions highlights show and rest Match of the Day for the day.

When the Chairman and DG have connections to the government, you can't say the BBC at senior management level is impartial.

The boundary between the BBC and the government of the day needs to be reinstated.

Lead story on Newsnight as well.

This has to be the most active this forum has been since launch. I’m loving every second, it’s like live tweeting when watching a reality show.

I think the main take from this fiasco is it will likely just highlight this issue, after there was already controversy over Richard Sharp's Tory donations and Boris's loan. They've just shot themselves in the foot and made the issue worse, it just makes it look like the BBC are under the Tory's thumb, whether that's the reality or not.

Lineker passes to Davie. Davie runs with it, back to Lineker. Lineker passes to Sharp on the inside back to Lineker but he misses. What an own goal!
