RE: Gary Lineker/BBC Asylum Controversy - Matrix - 11-03-2023

A colleague reminded me that there is an episode of W1A which is based on a presenter and the controversy that comes with confected anger.

Let’s be clear: this is an absurd story. Linekar is a sports presenter. No one turns to him for their news updates, nor will he be fronting up Newsbeat, Newsnight, or Newsday any time soon.

Management have taken an action which screams of caving into the absurd political pressure which they are literally designed to shield the BBC from. I suppose it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock though from a former Conservative candidate and his chum who asks as a cash point for Boris’s ilk.

Sorry to veer into the political but I’ve really just about had enough. The entire culture is beyond toxic and work has just become a constant battle. It’s not so bad, except then to see your leadership team behave like this. Well. It says it all.

As for the presentation of Match of the Day, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up with the Continuity doing an explainer, straight into coverage and then some form of on screen text to highlight different bits. That’s assuming there aren’t more walk outs.

When you’ve got the former DG and the former editor-in-chief of the Telegraph coming out publicly saying that the BBC got it wrong and that rules aren’t applied fairly, you know it’s a full-blown crisis.

If it's spilling over to other (related) programmes, where does this lead?

Final Score as a full screen vidiprinter all afternoon?

BBC News have just sent out a full breaking news alert sound effect and all about Football Focus

RE: Gary Lineker/BBC Asylum Controversy - Omnipresent - 11-03-2023

Worth recalling that it was the BBC that went completely over the top with this story and gave it legs, making it the lead story on the 6 & 10 on Wednesday night.

All this over a tweet on a platform that the vast majority of the British public don’t even use and the media gives far too much weight to.

Final Score is also reported to have been pulled!

This is truly unprecedented.

From what I'm seeing on Twitter, Kelly Somers had been lined up to present instead by now she's pulled out. So there's now no Football Focus today
