I have to be honest though, I am very surprised at how big this story went around the world.......

"Also, I’d like to thank Tim Davie for his understanding during this difficult period. He has an almost impossible job keeping everybody happy, particularly in the area of impartiality. I am delighted that we’ll continue to fight the good fight, together."

Ha! I'm not. BBC World viewers were force fed it since Saturday. Trapped in a joint service with no way out .

What a farce.  Rolleyes The way this all ended makes BBC News' overblown coverage even more silly and ridiculous, not just on the intеrnational stage but domesticlally as well.

Because the BBC is a valued and respected broadcaster around the world seen as the model of independent public broadcasting, and that has been compromised over the last few years, highlighted by what happened last week.

It's reported around the world in the same manner Russian TV organisations was reported around the world a year ago for either being a voice piece for the government or facing consequences when they went against them.

So it's storm in a tea cup and been a complete waste of time..  Everyone got away with it by blaming the idiots that created the ambiguous rules over social media.

Quote:“Everyone recognises this has been a difficult period for staff, contributors, presenters and, most importantly, our audiences. I apologise for this. The potential confusion caused by the grey areas of the BBC’s social media guidance that was introduced in 2020 is recognised. I want to get matters resolved and our sport content back on air.

To quote W1A: ‘With its track record for unparalleled impartiality, it’s important that the BBCs own coverage is vastly more negative than everyone elses.’

The rules that Davie himself signed off on and presented to staff in 2020?

It was so unnecessary to have got to this point.

Even after the suspension an agreement should have been struck the moment it became apparent that it was going to have such far reaching consequences on the output over the weekend.

I wonder if there are penalties for the sub standard Premier League output over the weekend. Will they be able to put together a better product of last weekends action to be shown this week?

It's a tried and tested strategy (especially in government, regardless of party!) for dealing with dreadful situations of your own making:

Find a way to blame the previous guys for the problem

Announce an inquiry to kick the problem down the road and deal with it later

Issue an apology (on behalf of the organisation, of course; after all, you personally have nothing to apologise for)

Insist that you've acted appropriately throughout

Hope the whole thing blows over before anyone asks questions about your own stupid decisions, and all the many ways they made everything much, much worse.
Tim Davie is, to put it bluntly, balls-deep in that strategy.

And it's surprising how often it works. Some new scandal will pop up soon enough to capture the limited attention span of the British public, everyone will be furious about something else, and the poor judgement and feeble leadership of BBC senior management will be allowed to fester on.
