I'm not, it's just like the police raid on BBC Scotland offices over the Zircon affair in January 1987.

As soon as (freelance) talent started to boycott shifts on BBC Sport shows, it appears Davie went on damage limitation from Washington and flew back to London overnight on Sat/Sun.

I'd estimate Davie and BBC suits were negotiating with Lineker and his agent on Sunday and first thing today to finalise that they'd be no punishment for Lineker while saving their own skins. The review of social media accounts for non-news staff will be kicked down the road and all goes back to normal for Lineker and other freelance contractors to BBC Sport.

- No apology from Lineker
- No punishment for Lineker
- Another pro-refugee tweet from Lineker

Do the BBC ignore the right-wing media critique this time that got them into this mess in the first place?
The Daily Mail and Sun’s website’s leading headlines are pretty much that at the moment.

Not in tune with the public once again.

Yougov has just published the weighted results as to whether the BBC is right or wrong to reinstate GL.

Right: 57% (Lab voters - 79%, Con voters - 41%, LD voters - 81%, Remain voters - 74%, Leave voters - 45%)
Wrong: 23% (Lab voters - 9%, Con voters - 41%, LD voters - 10%, Remain voters - 13%, Leave voters - 39%)

Never underestimate the British sense of fairness and understanding what constitutes free speech.

Because the BBC is a valued and respected broadcaster around the world seen as the model of independent public broadcasting, and that has been compromised over the last few years, highlighted by what happened last week.

It's reported around the world in the same manner Russian TV organisations was reported around the world a year ago for either being a voice piece for the government or facing consequences when they went against them.

And prominent Americans - such as musician/producer Nile Rodgers and former Olympic gold medallist Michael Johnson (who both have a British fanbase) - have even talked about this on social media.

The Lineker story was in The New York Times over the weekend and Franceinfo had a piece on the disruption this morning.

I think Davie is safe for now. I don't think this is a resigning matter. But I think he may have to go soon if he's criticised in the Tim westwood review which must be due out soon it was commissioned in August and was meant to last 6 months

There is no turning back now for anyone. The BBC has been weakened by this and while I applaud Linekar et al for their stances I do feel that their reputations have been sullied.

It's pretty desperate stuff.

Let's see how long that holds.
Such a familar line. We've seen it'll hold for a while but ultimately all comes crashing down, and in the mean time more damage is done by somebody clinging on to their job rather than doing the honourable thing.

In which case it would probably be better for his personal reputation to go now - far better to quit over this than be forced out over what is a far more serious issue. Though given how things have gone previously the replacement DG would then likely be forced to resign over Tim Westwood.

The whole saga has earned the status of a Ros Atkins explainer (with wrong BBC logo DOG)

Meanwhile 5 Live Sport returned to normality at 7 PM with the Monday Night Club hosted by Mark Chapman. Here are his opening remarks addressing the situation and the abuse aimed at the 5 Live commentators who appeared on air over the weekend.

Although it should probably be Davie who goes over that because he was head of radio for some of that time it would be unfair for someone else to go over that when they had nothing to do with it
