Yes, it's definitely not on ITV's priority list, I'm surprised even someone thought this would be a problem lol

Moreover, I think HD linear channels, if not linear channels in general, are far from being their priority these days.
They give the company more visibility, that's all.

I didn’t say it was - just that for children who could previously watch programmes at the weekend on ITV 1 in HD, now having to watch programmes on ITV 2 in crummy over-compressed SD would be a downgrade. Not all of them would have the option of mitigating that via ITVX or a linear feed of ITV 2 HD. That’s all.

HD is more noticeable for children too as most children have better eyesight than adults.

Overall, though, as I said in my post previously, it’s not a big deal but it is a shame.

judging by the likes of TIKTOK and YouTube shorts, kids seem to prefer 9:16 than 16:9.

That’s true - but there are still digitally excluded kids.

Not everywhere in the country even has a broadband connection that reliably supports video, although this already improving dramatically.

Also true, but let's not forget there was a digital divide at switchover. There are several schemes, free WiFi, social tariffs, back in covid some got a device and mobile broadband. It can (and needs to) go further and hopefully we will see government intervention.

never underestimate a child's ability to seek out electronic entertainment. Plenty of watching with mates etc goes on.

Where, please? ITVX advertises a minimum speed of just 1Mbps, FYI.

Must be remembred we could do video streaming in the dial-up days, which up to 56k... Yes it was potatovision and jumped around a lot but it was doable. Just.

1Mbps might be fine for just ITVX on its own, but doesn't go very far when that's split between multiple devices and other online activities.

ITV 2/3/4 are HD on satellite and are FTA. Freeview only households are the only ones that are 'missing out', unless ITV decide to launch IPTV versions of their channels and have them in HD like the BBC are trialling.

Unsurprisingly, no mention of today's CITV on ITV1 block being the last. I really don't get why they're trying to hide the fact it's closing. https://www.tvhome.co.uk/itv1/2023/08/27/0600#autoplay

There's no conspiracy, they simply don't care about it. The only reason they're continuing with it at all, anywhere, is because they are contractually obliged to. There are so few viewers to lose that they don't really care about redirecting them either.
