RTE / TG4 General Presentation thread - Rdd - 17-03-2023

It’s St Patrick’s Day so a good time to start this thread. For the first time in a while we have some new RTE One idents! Pity they are only for the St Patrick’s Festival, but they make a refreshing change to this channels quite frankly ancient presentation (the idents debuted in their original form in November 2006 and the rest of the pres dates from January 2014). I don’t have video capture these days so no pics at this point but maybe one of the other Irish posters might be able to capture them.

RTE One and RTE2's DOGs have also been updated with green shamrocks, just like last year:

Looks as though there are three St Patrick's idents on RTÉ One.  Apparently, they were popping up earlier in the week too?

The idents and the first appearance of the St Patrick's channel DOGs (quite abrupt exits from Euronews on both channels):

A massive longshot… but how long are RTE planning to keep these RTE One idents for? They’ve been on since 2006 and, whilst I’m aware RTE aren’t exactly swimming in cash.. you’d think they’d at least freshen things up?

RE: RTE / TG4 General Presentation thread - Rdd - 26-03-2023

They gave them a freshen up….

In 2014!

That consisted of cropping the idents to remove the 2006 logo and adding the new logo (which was essentially the same with “ONE” in a different font).

Yeah, it’s ridiculously long in the tooth for a channel identity at this stage, though as with the BBC there’s probably a bit of a fear of articles about wasting license fee payers money on idents.

I think in one of the idents a CRT monitor can be glimpsed, that’s how old they are.

Not presentation related but of interest, Ofcom director of content and media policy Kevin Bakhurst has been appointed Director-General of RTE.

RTÉ ONE appears to have some new idents, the old ones that were used for over 15 years seem to have finally been replaced.

That's just teasing. Tongue

Can you get some caps? I can only see RTÉ News on the RTÉ Player here.
EDIT: I see Roger has found some as I was typing my comment.

Tbh, they just need an entire rebrand. These new idents are way too generic.
They could take some pages from the BBC really.
