Whatever he's done/not done. I think the show would be better without him. Rosanna Lockwood is a much better host.

Not pre-judging anything either but anyone reading Private Eye over the last few years would have seen TND had an alleged horrendous HR record at News UK.
He's also not that great on screen and his show is watched by literally nobody, so not a great week for him!

I really am sceptical about this move. What are they thinking?

Wasn't one of the election hustings branded Sun TV?

RE: Talk TV - London Lite - 20-06-2023

If they're repositioning as The Sun TV, I'd expect it to be even more tabloid and skewed towards the right in yet another feeble attempt to raise their share against GB News.

I don't know what this would fix, it's not like the name is an issue for them like it can be occasionally for GBN!

RE: Talk TV - London Lite - 20-06-2023

On one hand they're not attempting to be a news channel as the branding makes it clear what they're doing, but GB News has had the upper hand by launching first and getting a (bad) reputation among those who believe the channel shouldn't even exist.

Talk TV hasn't had an advertising boycott, but has been grouped in the same category as GB News.

The production and presentation on the channel has been largely good, but it does feel like they're GBN Lite as it's a more toned down version of that channel. Yet Morgan's show despite getting some guests bang on target for the demo like Trump simply doesn't have any real direction. If you watch Wootton on the other side, you know what you're getting even if it most of it is off the scale of normality.

The other is the over reliance of the radio side of the operation, which has been performing better in some dayparts than the prime-time made for tv shows.

They can call it Sun TV or anything else, but the fact is Murdoch has lost this one. Talk TV isn't Sky Mark II and those who watch for culture wars on tv are watching in slightly higher numbers to GB News instead.

The radio station is performing better, although still not to the heights of the more balanced LBC.

RE: Talk TV - Ash101 - 20-06-2023

I did wonder why they didn’t rebrand TalkRadio as The Sun Radio around the same time that Times Radio launched. But I presumed it was to stay away from the negative connections that the brand has.. (although it’s always trashed in certain circles, it is more read than Mirror/Star, so has some appeal!)

Not convinced this helps right now though. They’d be better off trying to get a proper Breakfast show for TV on air & more weekend content. I think you can probably get away with the radio studio stuff between 10 and 4.

RE: Talk TV - telleyhead - 21-06-2023

I don't believe it's a channel rebrand. I believe it may be a new programme.

RE: Talk TV - Larry the Loafer - 21-06-2023

Granted, I am terribly biased as someone raised near the Mersey. But does The Sun even have better brand appeal than the Talk stations to warrant such a move?
