RE: Channel 4 Pres: 2023 - Present - Andrew Wood - 14-06-2023

I would have thought they could have batched them up in 1s, 2s or 3s - looping from the (ugly) green 4 through the scenes then back to green 4. They could have then incorporated the chime at the start and finish.

And they do remind of another Channel 4 channel's ident ...

Just found out OG Big Brother logo designer Daniel Eatock worked on one of the loops for the idents. He worked on the globe ball floating on hairdryer sequence, or as he calls it "Hot Earth".

Interested to see if this is a situation akin to the BBC Virtual Globe with different ident starting points to convey different moods. Otherwise we'll just have the same few scenes ever being shown.

With Channel 4, since I think 2004 the idents have been run as clips in full (unlike many other channels where they have a long tail that can be run to whatever duration is needed) and I'd guess that is continuing. So I think it will be just the same ones, but hopefully they'll take advantage of being able to fairly easily make lots of different edits.

Interesting (maybe?) that only one of the four shown so far have had all scenes in exactly the same sequence seen in that full clip. Two had the opening scene from a different part to what followed and another started in the sequence from the long version but showed something different at the very end.

Certainly the 10pm ident before 24 hrs in Police Custody did not follow the exact sequence of the film. It would be very cool if they can mix them all together and create infinite variations of ident, I need to study these further tomorrow but they look excellent. Are the recent new green logo idents going to be used anymore or will they be reserved for things like the news and how does the logoless Formula 1 ident fit into this new ident package? Also, how will the other Ch 4 channels idents link with this new look, if at all? Even though they are using the older thinner blocked more spacious 4 logo?

I think they could do with playing around with the sound mixing - the ident audio and the announcer are really drowning each other out in this one.

Looks like it is. The "Renaissance painting at the end of the night" scene was shown at the end of the 10pm junction and was shown at the start of the 12:35am one. Nice to see there'll be variation.

Haven't been here in a while, but might I say these new idents are frigging gold and silver. I saw the full film and I was moved, and the feeling of traveling through dimensions wih the 4 in the center, almost acting as a guide within the idents, gives off a sort of, playful, yet fortified feel. The last stanza from that poem especially got me: Life is infinitely better with you in it. Channel 4 really cares about us people, us beautiful people, telling a story of the British Isles that is as colorful as the bars on the TV. Kudos.

It’s a shame they couldn’t just have the full ident running on loop and then when they have continuity dip into it at whatever point it’s at.

It is a massive step up from anything else on air at the moment though. Out of the 5 terrestrial channels I’d rank the idents

Channel 4 (best)
BBC2
BBC1
ITV
Channel 5 (worst)
