Not sure if it was the first time they ran over summer (I've a feeling they had the year before) but they bought Richard Bacon and Denise Van Outen in 2005 as the summer hosts - and don't think either guest hosted at all after that. I think the year after they returned to taking a break and then when they regularly started covering summer again they had the familar arrangement of Eamonn and Ruth, which is the exact opposite of what Andrew is suggesting. Indeed when Alison and Dermot were announced as replacing them many felt they'd be better suited to the summer role with Eamonn and Ruth on Fridays rather than vice versa.

Obviously plans may change now and may be dependent on how the search for a permanent replacement is going but I'd expect after a week or two of Dermot and Alison (which may be curtailed if they end up filling in alot in the weeks ahead) it'll be a similar arrangement to last year with Josie and Rochelle joined by the likes of Craig and Andi. I'd imagine if they want to try out any potential full time hosts on screen they'll try and do that before the summer, or in September if their search continues into the autumn.

If it does end up being Craig one thing which might delay him starting is the Rugby World Cup. He has continued to be be involved in the ITV coverage during his BT days regardless of other presenters they might use during the year so he potentially will be again this year too, especially with him increasingly being a semi-regular on the channel even prior to the events of the last few days.

I suggested that longer term I think This Morning summer should have different hosts and be treat differently from other school holidays, and that younger hosts like Roman would be good for that role.

To be fair I think Roman is itching to move on from Capital breakfast.  Had he got Big Brother he would have left.  I can imagine him going on to do other things sooner rather than later.  Think he already covers the one show and has a new daytime quiz show coming to BBC one. So the slow move away has begun.

Correct, he's co-hosting The Finish Line with Sarah Greene, and has indeed been doing The One Show since last year.

Curious as to what gives you that impression of Roman?

I am pretty sure he’s listened to by more people on a weekday morning than he’d be watched on either This Morning or Big Brother.

I can imagine he’s on a very good wage too, which leaves him free to do other stuff the rest of the day.

Capital Radio pulls in an average of 7.8 million listeners each week. Capital Breakfast most likely is a large chunk of that figure.

This Morning audience varies. Some as low as 500,000, or as high as one million viewers depending on the day, and who is hosting, and who is their guests.

Comparing weekly reach for a station versus average audience for a programme is rather apples and oranges. I do suspect more people hear Capital breakfast across a week that tune into This Morning, but it’s hard to do a like-for-like comparison.

Capital Breakfast get's 2.6 million. He been doing the show for 6 years and I think that one of the shows low rating. I am sue it's been over 3 million in the past.

I wasn't doing like for like - just providing the figures I had on hand

2.6 million is very good for Capital especially in this current era - Global as a whole are doing very well radio wise, and it's a comfortable job for Roman - always feels like radio is his bread and butter, something he can always rely on, whereas television is a hit and miss for him.

Remember his Sunday morning weekend show for ITV with his dad?  Has that been axed, as it seems there has been silence around that coming back.

He has worked on a new game show for the BBC - I get the feeling Roman enjoys being freelance of sort when it comes to television - doesn't want to nail his colours to the mast of one broadcaster, so maybe unlikely we will ever see him sign up to a large contract for a big TV show on one channel.

2.6m weekly reach is considerably less the the weekly reach of This Morning.

Gyles and Vorders would be a good pairing as Friday presenters, with Dermot and Alison Monday to Thursday.

Out the box.
