That was what was said about Holly as well though when she joined.

Can’t see it being anyone other than Josie or Alison to be honest. Someone leaving in these circumstances doesn’t tend to lead to a big revamp or new signing, at least initially - it leads to a business-as-usual continuity.

A shame it's ended this way, and ironic that his last show was on the Thursday of Mental Health Awareness Week.

While none of us really know the truth, I can imagine both Holly and Phil's mental health is taking a bit of a battering right now and I hope ITV have learned from their past mistakes and are providing support where it's needed, so we don't end up with another tragic situation.

You'd think ITV's PR people would've learnt to avoid promoting presenters as part of a wonderful, happy "family" by now.  The "ITV Daytime family" didn't end well with Jeremy Kyle's show axing, Piers Morgan's departure, and now the "This Morning family" is having to kick out the father-figure.

BBC One management must currently be feeling grateful for their well-rating - but rather pedestrian - schedule of news, consumer affairs and bargain-hunting in the mornings.

Genuinely quite surprised by this; to leave immediately after twenty years with no goodbye, particularly on a show that relies on familiarity with the presenters, is a brutal way to go.

As others have said, there must surely be more to come on this story - as far as we know Schofield hasn’t actually done anything wrong.

If nothing further actually comes out in the wash, it sets quite the precedent at ITV. If the papers now decide Holly was the problem all along and continue reporting about her, does she have to quit? If Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway, for example, are reported to have had a massive fallout and the tabloids decide it’s now too awkward for them to work together, does Ben have to quit? Where does it stop?

Giving into tabloid pressure is certainly nothing new, but it is telling that someone like Schofield, who has been loyal to the ITV machine for two decades, can be spat out as easily as this.

I do also think what was *not* said throughout this saga is more interesting than what was.

Indeed, Holly could most likely have helped to prevent this outcome, but by declining to release her own statement, or even put her a name to a joint statement to refute the rumours, essentially made it a much bigger story.

A joint statement, being seen to socialise over the weekend (and getting it up on social media) and addressing it on Monday’s show, ie - ‘we can assure you we are still the best of friends and there is nothing to worry about’ probably would have put the whole thing to bed.

If they were still genuinely friends before all of this, Holly declining to do *something* to try and help resolve it probably meant they weren’t by the end of it…

As others have noted, Philip’s statement today doesn’t even mention Holly, whilst Holly’s statement is not exactly glowing. Certainly confirms large parts of the speculation, that’s for sure.

They do:

I had no idea. All the times I've watched it and they've not been presenting, and it's always been Philip and Holly just with different, or no, names at the end

I’m guessing Ben or Jake for a more permanent replacement.

Don't they have a presenter-less version used when a non-standard partnership is presenting?

Also, if Holly's taking a couple of weeks off, and Dermot and Alison are therefore on all week, they can just use their version, and make a version with just Holly for when she returns.
The Friday version with Alison and Dermot predominantly features Phil and Holly, though there might be a version without them too (as long as the presenterless version).   Easy enough to cut Phil's scene out though.

Sad it's come to this and no doubt it had to in order to protect the brand and arguably Holly too.   Somewhat ironic he leaves in similar circumstances to how he arrived.

Guest hosts over the six weeks until summer isn't too much of an issue.  Hopefully then they'd have a permanent replacement for September, but we said that about GMB too.

I would put Craig Doyle as favourite, assuming Dermot doesn't want it, given there seems no guarantee BT Sport staff will move over to TNT.   Not sure he has hosted with Holly yet, but that can be tested at some point over the next six weeks.

I’d predict that Holly won’t stay with the show long term, a year maximum is my guess. She’ll leave to front the next big BBC One entertainment series produced by Hungry Bear

The trouble is, the show has to be a big success first. She could do 3 or 4 formats and none of them take off. I’d guess had he quit This Morning earlier so many primetime jobs wouldn’t have come Phil’s way.

I also don’t think there is that much difference seen between being a daytime presenter and prime time presenter these days other than Ant & Dec, there are not many presenters you couldn’t see doing a stint on This Morning for example.

Andi Peters? Has history of stepping into roles after Schofield moves on
