They haven't proven it works yet Wink

It really depends on the show.

It many ways Deal or no Deal feels more like an ITV show. In fact ITV tried to poach it in heyday. It may have even have lasted longer had it been an ITV show from the beginning as it wouldn’t have found itself up against game shows from ITV.

I still don't get how Tipping Point won that war.

Back to commissioning and I think it is worth noting that as much as the focus is on C4 this is clearly an industry wide issue at the moment with BECTU very concerned about the lack of work in "unscripted" content around at the moment. ITV clearly no longer commission for summer after years of one series not-so-wonders on Saturday nights between June and August, and most weeknight drama for now is either repeats or content from ITVX, although in the latters case that was always likely to ultimately get an outing. It's probably not noticed so much at ITV as their entertainment slate is fairly solid at the moment with returning shows, whilst drama nowadays focused on stripped one-off stories more than returning series.

Buying the production company would probably mean Gogglebox switching channels when the current contract is up - like how the BBC lost The Voice to ITV after ITV bought the company that owned that show. It's not good news for Channel 4 if that sale happens.

If ITV buy all3media, that probably accounts for half the indie TV production in the UK...

Well you have already a few noted 'labels' / 'imprints' within All3Media. A few of the more notable for a UK audience are:

Bentley Productions
Known for drama productions especially the internationally renowned Midsomer Murders.

Lime Productions
The production outfit that was originally known as Mersey Television. Hollyoaks is their main long runner.

North One
Mainly documentary and features driven with The Gadget Show among the various productions made.

Objective Media Group
Founded by Andrew O'Connor and best known for most of Derren Brown's output.

Studio Lambert
Need I say more.

So I would safely say that it indeed is a considerable chunk of the production market.

Re. DOND, the main debate will be Mulhern vs Edmonds but I do think the channel change will be a talking point in terms of why ITV have decided to bring back an old Channel 4 show and is it worth it? Gogglebox would face a similar situation in that people would ask "why now?" for a show that has been on air 10 years. Channels don't just get rid of successful shows so viewers who are unaware of C4's financial issues (practically most people) may question the quality of the show. If money is considered, an untrue hunch could be that participants have demanded too much, which also can lead to negative feelings about the show.

As for the situation with Studio Lambert, given how much it helps them out, C4 probably thought commissioning Rise and Fall amongst others to keep Gogglebox was worth it. It's a sad state of affairs to rely so much on one show but to greenlight a ten to the penny reality show that will only lose you money is even worse.

C4 should let ITV take Gogglebox and concentrate on new shows instead.

Studio Lambert only really commission for the BBC and Channel 4, I've never seen any of their shows on ITV1 or Channel 5. Likewise with Love Productions.

TOWIE is another major one of their as well. Could easily see why ITV would want full control of that.

This was because the BBC wouldn't commission the kids spin off, it had nothing to do with buying Talpa
