They were running a 30 second VT out of the break once per show saying the NTA voting was open...

Maureen Duffy was the exec when Richard and Judy decided to quit, nicknamed "Duffy the Vampire Slayer" in the tabloids...

Didn't Trisha Goddard have some drama with Dianne Nelmes, another ITV daytime executive, hence why she defected to C5?

Trisha wanted her show to be produced by Townhouse Television, a company formed by her and former Anglia Television executive Malcolm Allsop (who had hired her to take over from Vanessa Feltz), therefore giving her a bit creative control over it.

Nelmes refused to entertain the idea, so Trisha went to C5 when they were able to give her the creative control.

And then when she did defect didn't ITV stockpile whatever remaining new episodes they had, running repeats in their place, then put the 'new' episodes to air when they C5 show started?

ISTR that she went on air in C5 in the afternoons initially, pulling in lower ratings than what the Trisha episodes on ITV were getting, and only switched to mornings (which is where her audience was) when ITV ran out of Trisha episodes to air.

Sounds similar to the reason Paul O'Grady defected to Channel 4.

Think it was ITV execs rather than C4 execs who forced Carol out of Countdown too.

I remember Paul's defection to Channel 4 - it happened in January 2006, when he said they had forgotten about him, and took him for granted, they literally thought he would renew with them, and so didn't bother to start discussions about a new contract, which Paul wanted to talk with them, as he wanted some changes.

The biggest change wanted was control of the show, with his own production company Olga TV producing the show instead of ITV plc producing it - ITV wouldn't let that happen which was probably one big reason he jumped.

When he did move to Channel 4, ITV turned nasty towards him, refusing him access to Studio 2 at The London Studios to continue to produce his show, even though The London Studios was a commercial entity and anyone from any channel could hire then, ITV banned him for over a year, which led to him using Studio TC6 at BBC Television Centre in London until around autumn 2007 I believe when finally they relented and allowed him back to TLS.

Second, he was told by his lawyer to rename the show to "The New Paul O'Grady Show" as ITV were thinking of hitting him with copyright claims, and also they decided to repeat his ITV shows up against his new version.

Just shows you how vindictive ITV can become when they want to be.

I thought Channel 4 cut the budget for the show so wanted to reduce her salary by 90%that

Paying her the sort of salary a co-presenter/assistant or however you’d describe her role woul get, rather than the ‘big TV star who was on every other programme going’ salary that she was probably on at that point

But regardless of that, I’m not entirely sure what a load of disconnected events over many decades involving completely different people has anything to do with anything, it’s like what the tabloids do.

In the case of ITV, in the period after Paul defected to Channel 4, a lot of key people at ITV such as Charles Allen and Simon Shaps were either replaced or left and I suspect both Michael Grade and Peter Fincham wanted to make amends with Paul hence why after the show ended on Channel 4, he returned to ITV with Paul O'Grady Live.

Also remember, even though his prime time ITV show lasted just one year, Paul stayed with ITV and launched For the Love of Dogs with them in 2012, and he stayed with ITV - so his relationship with ITV remained improved and stable then.
