It depends what’s in their contracts. There is probably a clause saying they get nothing if there isn’t a second series.

I wonder if the success of the UK version might save the Aussie one. As it will show them it can be done well. The damage is probably done though.

I doubt it - 10 have been burnt in that regard with The Traitors which almost certainly got a second series based on the international response rather than the lukewarm ratings of their own first series. Unlike Gladiators though that was a well made production - it just didn't find an audience.

I guess one thing that could save the show in Australia is if they do another Ashes tournament made by the UK producers on the UK set. Just to see if the show being done properly improves things drastically enough.

Bradley would also be known to viewers down under from The Chase. But I’m not sure there would be any incentive from the UK side to spin the series off into special non-celebrity editions that early.

“Becoming a Gladiator” is such a vague prize, I can imagine they have various ways to fulfil it in the small print. If all else fails, just give them a Gladiator name and one photoshoot in a bespoke lycra outfit = mission accomplished!

It strikes me that one of the female contestants is from Dublin, I don't think it's that common to have contestants from the Republic of Ireland on British quiz/gameshows.

It’s not that uncommon. Most prominent examples are probably Big Brother and the X Factor, both of which had literally loads of Irish contestants. (From the former, the likes of Anna Nolan and Brian Dowling, from the latter, who can forget Jedward or Niall Horan, and of course Louis Walsh was a near constant presence as a judge, and host Dermot O’Leary has close ties to Ireland too). Now it would possibly be stretching the term to regard the latter as a gameshow, but then, the same could be said for Gladiators!

I’m pretty sure X Factor has had Dublin auditions before.

I think it depends on the type of show, I don’t think a resident of Cork would turn up The Chase. But they probably would on Britain’s Got Talent, perhaps ironically.
