I had football on my phone at the same time as I watched the Eliminator, so was able to count that both time gaps at the start were accurate this week.

Not too surprising to learn that Welsh rugby ref Nigel Owens was offered the refereeing gig eventually given to Mark Clattenburg.

Viper got what he deserved in Duel - after knocking the contestant off before the countdown had finished, he was warned to wait next time, and the contestant took him out in two blows! Another villain might have emerged in Gauntlet, which saw one Gladiator disqualified for holding onto the contestant, and another shove the contestant right back to the start (he still got given six points though).

its so blatantly obvious Viper is being hyped up as the new Wolf, and he's doing the exact same things Wolf did (or would have done given half a chance) back in the day - cheating, arguing with the ref, going round looking like a wet weekend in Brighton... He only needs now to have a fight with Bradley Walsh and the reincarnation is complete.

That major force of pushing looked painful and nasty - I was only watching and I felt most of that!

Say they had used the Paul Farrer theme (or similar) from 2008, would this revival have been as successful?

I think so. Its success is down to much more than just nostalgia, and even the (perfectly pitched) nostalgia is down to much more than just the theme. Had they approached it like Sky did and repackaged the whole thing, it wouldn't have been as successful; but IMHO there's enough nostalgia, campness and understanding of what made the first run successful in the approach that it would have still succeeded no matter the theme tune.

Everything about the set design, graphics etc is incredibly 90s. They'd totally fit.

The Eliminator at the very least is really lacking atmosphere as it stands.

Talking of the Gladiators theme tune, discovered the other day that it was inspired by his radio jingle. The producers hired the writer of it, Muf Murfin because they wanted something of a similar tone for the programme:

So, the ratings for Gladiators have been 6.0 > 5.4 > 4.8, which are only the overnight numbers. I'd imagine the BBC would be happy with the show settling above 4m and adding another 1.5-2m afterwards, but with eight episodes still to go and on that downward trend... that may not happen. I'd like to see another series and games like Danger Zone and Atlaspheres added. A Christmas special with the old cast would be good too.

I guess they were always going to start high then after a few weeks settle into what the 'true' figures will be.

Notable that all of the 'entertinment' shows bar Masked Singer saw a drop in the overnights for that Saturday.

Not sure there is much value in 50-70 year old ex-Gladiators competing.

Will be interesting how the Six Nations affects ratings as it'll either push it later (7.10 this week) or may air against it.
