RE: Gladiators re-revival - PJamo - 28-03-2024

Quite a few of the LWT Gladiators were recruited out of the contender try-outs.

I did wonder whether Wesley might have been in the wings as either a stand-in contender or stand-in Gladiator - he definitely felt like he had a big enough personality for both roles.

RE: Gladiators re-revival - JAS84 - 28-03-2024

I don't think they had any stand in Gladiators. If Comet had been replaced (and her injury was early enough that she could've been), there'd have been one more female Gladiator than male ones, instead of the same number of both genders. I think they just gave Sabre (who of course was later also injured, but near the end of production) and Diamond more air time.

There's nothing stopping a contender from later becoming a Gladiator though. Eunice Huthart won series 3 in 1994, did the next set of stage shows as a Gladiator called Blaze, but then didn't appear in that role on TV because she wanted to compete as a contender on International Gladiators instead (which she also won). If they do need some replacements, people like Wesley and Bronte would fit the bill, they could definitely recruit from the series 1 contenders.

RE: Gladiators re-revival - Brekkie - 28-03-2024

They've already got a fairly big Gladiators cast with 16. I think it's more of a production decision to have some specialise in some events.

I think continuity wise if they can keep the cast of 16 for series 2 they will.

RE: Gladiators re-revival - JAS84 - 29-03-2024

I agree, they'll only bring in new ones if anyone quits. It'd actually be a miracle if all 16 come back though - series 3 is the only time in the LWT series that there was no change to the previous season's roster. The Sky series lost a couple of people between it's two seasons as well.

Confirmed there the first episode totalled 9.8m in 28 days and the running average is 8.3m - so it's pretty much doubling it's overnight figure.

When you click the apply bit it lets you select either Contender or Gladiator

Not a bad final at all. Any issues for the revival as a whole are relatively minor and can be fixed in the next run to my mind, though its pretty much there.

Not sure why they thought the final needed its own DOG though.

Nice to see former Gladiator Saracen in the audience tonight.

RE: Gladiators re-revival - JAS84 - 30-03-2024

Did Bradley not know Saracen was there when he cracked that joke about Jet and Wolf?

RE: Gladiators re-revival - mcrdev - 02-04-2024

Some notes from the filming of the final:

* The order of games was changed - they started with Collision, then filmed the intro's, then The Edge, The Wall, Duel and Gauntlet in that order

* Bradley's joke about Jet & Wolf was filmed many hours before Saracen's presence in the audience was noted

* Filming took from around 1.30pm till 8.45pm

* After each round, all contestants were asked about how they felt they were going to do in the Eliminator with the points they had scored that round - obviously this was all removed because the games were played in a different order - but it explains why Bronte was so happy after the final game - as this was filmed first

* The Edge took by far the longest of the games to film, with it taking probably 5 minutes per contender to get everything raised and lowered. Contenders / Gladiators would be harnessed up for the ride into the roof, and had to get down by jumping on to the net even if they stayed up for the entire of the game. Camera operators and Mark Clatenburg were harnessed throughout and couldn't move from where they were stood.

* Many of the wide shots of the arena have had visual effects work done to remove cameras and crew

* The winners were announced in the arena as the 2024 champions - which felt odd in June 2023...

* After the final bits were filmed and the audience was leaving, the updated theme music was played (nice and loud) to the departing audience

* The whole series was filmed in the middle of June, when it was particularly hot, humid and thundery - not all the sweat seen on the competitors was down to the exercise
