RE: Gladiators re-revival - Brekkie - 31-10-2023

It looks like they're trusting it to run independently of Strictly and should strengthen Q1 (assuming that's when it airs) - paired with the 5 remaining episodes of The Wheel and presumably the new series of Michael McIntyre's Big Show on paper it's their strongest Winter line up for some time. Wouldn't be too surprised though if it launches a couple of weeks earlier as part of the Christmas schedules.

One show that hasn't been mentioned is Bridge of Lies. Is this keeping its slot in Q1?

Yeah,16th December would make sense, in the timeslot occupied by Doctor Who for the previous three weeks?

I'm not, I put into Google Bard to write sarcastic lyrics to the gladiators theme song and that is what it came up with. Obviously not going to be perfect or based on reality or even accurate but made me laugh.

Gladiators Australia is back as well, launches in January.

I'm jealous that the Australian viewers have an air date for their version already.

Given how hard Survivor seems to be flopping for BBC1 on Saturday nights have to wonder if the Gladiators producers should be worried too - Bradley and Barney might save it but it is perhaps just not BBC enough for the BBC.

RE: Gladiators re-revival - PJamo - 06-11-2023

It's an interesting thought and I'm not sure what the answer is (and this may not be the best place for this discussion) but Survivor doesn't 'feel'like a sat/Sun night on BBC1 type show. It feels to me like it would sit much more comfortably in the sort of midweek 8 or 9pm slot they put The Apprentice / Race Across the World/ Sort Your Life Out / etc.

Gladiators does feel more Saturday night ish but maybe that's its legacy from the 90s?

Thr trouble with Saturday Night on BBC1 - for me - is the variable lengths of Strictly shows which can affect other timings on the channel. 8.30 is too late for Gladiators if you want to capitalise on the whole family market, and before Strictly is slap bang in the middle of dinner time in lots of houses. It needs a fixed slot the same time every week in order to grow an audience before it starts moving even 5 or 10 minutes about the schedule.

Not sure where that is in the schedule though. Maybe the best place is in January at 6.30?

RE: Gladiators re-revival - JAS84 - 06-11-2023

I think I agree... it can't start before December 16th anyway, right, because of Doctor Who?

RE: Gladiators re-revival - Brekkie - 06-11-2023

Presumably that'll be a "Winners Weekend" with the Strictly final, SPOTY and the final two eps of Survivor. Gladiators, The Wheel/Big Show and Casualty gives them a solid Q1, along with Celeb Mastermind and either The Hit List or Weakest Link earlier in the evening.

I could see the BBC launching the series as part of the Christmas schedule though, or leave it till off the back of an FA Cup match in January.
