And in less than 4 hours time, at 7pm UKT, CNNI will break away for 2 hours from Domestic to cover Turkey election results. Becky Anderson will be anchoring.

Yes, they decided to dedicate one segment towards the end of each hour of election coverage to do a summary of other news, nice touch.
The coverage itself instead of just 2 hours has entered its 4th one.

How strange it is to have proper world news on CNNI on weekends, after 12.00 cet. Something that used to be a normal standard is now an oddity.

They’ve now to gone to World Sport with Michael Holmes promising to be back at the top of the hour. It is indeed a rare pleasure to have international news from CNNI on a Sunday night.

And they kept their promise - they were back at the TOTH under CNN Newsroom branding, but not for the whole hour - BOTH is now Domestic. So in total (excluding Sport) we already had four hours of solid coverage.
UPD. They again opted away from Domestic at several minutes past TOTH midnight UKT for Erdogan address. After that and a discussion Becky signed off for today. However, opting back to Domestic after the break (at 0030 UKT) did not go smoothly at all - they just crashed into it mid-interview, in the middle of the sentence the guest was speaking.

I imagine there’s little they can do about that unless an opt is pre-planned - even then, the most you could do would be a clean point to come back in; domestic would not bother to alter/adjust their output for international so if you miss the headline sequence/intro, then it’s tough. Still better than not having an opt though!

The crashing in is something that is more the norm than the exception. It's something that must shock everyone who complains about it on the BBC thread
Can even see it in the clip ginnyfan sent from 2005. They were still crashing in and out of things back then!

I complain about it with the BBC but that’s largely because I feel that British viewers are often getting an inferior service compared to World viewers - yet we pay the licence fee! Fundamentally, I view that as totally unfair on the British viewer as well as being presentationally very sloppy.
With CNN, the opposite is true. The US viewer is the main/primary consideration, it’s a service produced by a US-based organisation; it’s therefore not surprising or unexpected that CNN Domestic “takes priority” over International. Viewers arguably wouldn’t be surprised by that.
Obviously you always avoid crashes out or in if you can, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Using a sting, at least, is a good idea (something the BBC still don’t appear to have learnt)!

Back in the day on local tv in the US when the local station would join network programming if they were covering local breaking news or something.... They would show a full screen station ident and you would hear a recorded voiceover say something to the effect of : " We now join (network/regularly scheduled) programming already in the progress". And then it would crash into whatever was airing. I think that would be a better solution, then just an unannounced crash. That just weird. They could do this. Full screen BBC News Ident animation. Recorded voice-over that says something like: "This has been BBC News domestic coverage. We now join live BBC News world wide already in progress" or something to that effect. Then the crash wont feel so alien.
