I don't know if it's because it's on the left and we read left to right, but I find it more distracting than when it was on top of the logo.

I would recommend this fascinating piece about some of the things going on inside CNN directly by someone who was invited to see the inner workings of the network.

This is a fascinating read.

An unpopular opinion. Licht is doing a fine job, CNN US has become more watchable, objective, non-partisan and open for discussion and different topics. Zucker's worst talking heads are gone but sadly it seems like his ghost is still haunting the place. Changing the culture of this place will take more time but hopefully Chris & Zaslav can do it.

There's been some missteps with some parts like either he or someone thought it made sense to have Don Lemon as a breakfast host,  and the network overlooking Robin Meade again before ridding of her, but then some good things have happened: News Central's format works since they are doing more than just politics and politics babble all day. The Sunday program thing was a good idea, need more reporting in news and less "what do you think about what happened today? or what this person said?"   Overall, I do agree with you though.

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 03-06-2023

I didn’t finish reading the Atlantic with the same positive feelings toward Licht that you describe; rather, I feel a new sense of ambivalence towards the chairman. Chris is presented as this smart, successful newsman capable of bringing nuance to the network in the beginning. Yet his answers about ideology feel surprisingly smug and elitist to me. And his actions and blasé attitude towards his mistakes leave me scratching my head. For a man that talks about facts and the absolute truth I’m left with the feeling that he himself isn’t telling the truth or the whole story. It’s almost like he’s so crippled by the fear of failure that he avoids any meaningful interaction with staff and public honesty about himself.

Is he capable of overhauling CNN and finding the right path forward? Probably. But I’m not sure he can do it before he reaches his breaking point.

We will get used to it Smile

I thought about that. But the latest tendency on design (seen, for example, on Windows 11 or iOS) is to abandon the 100% flat look that was omnipresent on the last few years and to use shadows and gradients again (but not to the exent of skeuomorphism).
One of the things that i still don`t like from CNN is that there is not consistency between the on screen graphics and the intros and infographics. They tried in the last few years on CNN (international) to do that with the intros of CNN Newsroom, but it seems that they have choosen not to continue with that. For example, News Central logo looks more like something from the 2011 graphics than from the new ones.

I still think that the 2006 CNN International look, music and overall feel was the best and ahead of its time.

Well, certainly, there has been a move away from flat design in the last few years - with rounded corners and gradients cropping up more and more with every design refresh. I can't say it's a design style that I find aesthetically pleasing, but I'd agree that it is definitely the 'in' look at the minute and so am not surprised to see it spread to news graphics. That said, even trying to be objective, I can't this isn't an example of it being executed well and I do find it hard to escape the cheap, PowerPointy vibe that it gives off. Though, at least we aren't at the bevel stage yet.

Taped shows have the clock under the logo box, like before.

RE: CNN - justinh - 03-06-2023

I thought the old graphics were fine, aside from the brash shouty font. This new version looks overly Powerpointy with the gradients.
