RE: CNN - EastCoast - 05-06-2023

Very impressed with Rahel Solomon who hosted Early Start this morning then hustled over to the CNN This Morning studio to co-host that show. Might be a record for quickest studio change.

This comes on the heels of Rahel hosting CNN This Morning Friday in NY and over the weekend in Atlanta!

I would recommend this fascinating piece about some of the things going on inside CNN directly by someone who was invited to see the inner workings of the network.

Chris Licht himself has responded to the article, saying he "should not be in the news".

According to the US equivalent of this forum, the opposite case is true: no flipper when CNNi is simulcast on CNN Domestic.

If he don't want to be in the news the frankly he shouldn't be the news with the decisions he is making. Don't take a job if you can't handle the heat. There have been some good decisions he has made like News Central and tonning down the Breaking News and better reporting but stuff like the Trump Town Hall and the way he handles that is what makes him go into the news for all the wrong reason.

Meanwhile Kaitlin Collins is back at 9pm ET, though it is still billed as "CNN Primetime" and no new graphics is visible, so not sure if this can count as a proper launch of her announced permanent slot.

That's correct – I remember reading that the use of video walls that night was the inspiration for the Situation Room, which debuted a few months later.

It's interesting to see that video of American Morning. IINM, that short-lived studio was the only time CNN had a true streetside studio. That whole tape really shows how different CNN was back then. The anchor pairing of Paula Zahn and Bill Hemmer plus the mix of some lighter stories with in-studio guests on a sofa makes it feel more like an emulation of the Today Show or GMA. It's certainly much different from the morning formats that followed, which have generally been more focused on hard news, politics, and panel discussion of varying degree.

There is no letting up in the fallout from the Atlantic's feature!

The WSJ were first to publish a report that senior talent such as Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper and Erin Burnett have 'raised concerns' about their CEO. I've read it in the Business Insider below.
