RE: CNN - news727 - 11-07-2023

I just realized that the graphical design that was utilized in July 4th and for elections to come have become significantly larger in size.

Take for example this screenshot capture. I mapped out the borders of each element in yellow lines, including the strap, main title, main ticker and the box.

That is then overlaid atop another capture from the previous design, and as can be seen, everything has increased in width and/or height.

The key takeaway from the current design is that the strap area has to be stuck with the logo. The previous design allows these two elements to standalone, giving some breathing room for the main video feed. That room could potentially decrease much further if these "next polls close" countdowns and two-line straps (as has sporadically been used while this special design was in effect) pop up again.

Speaking of the current graphical design, every CNN channel (apart from US and Intl) has been sticking with the old one. Wonder why a total rollout is not in yet after 41 days of current active use across these channels.

And I guess CNN Center is still technically the world headquarters until it finally fully stops operating.  Tongue  No one ever officially took that title away.  But Techwood probably will NOT get that designation.

Techwood will NOT be dubbed CNN Center.  I get what you're saying, but that name is just too tied to that specific, iconic building.  It will be a loss not just for CNN's history but a loss for the city of Atlanta once everyone finally moves out....

Yeah i was meaning it was just more prolific back in the day. But I get your point.  Smile

First move again in London today, with Max Foster (whose 8am solo bulletin got omitted today), with a different, more thematic (mind the numbers) backdrop

This time, however, the closing shot made it clear that the big studio was in use

Like many other CNNI shows recently, it did not start on time - instead, NATO summit was covered by CNN News Central simulcast first.
Although I understand that they might have limited resources on the spot to accomodate both CNN and CNNI having their own separate coverages as the leading story, this lackadaisical approach to CNNI shows is somewhat worrying...

As wonderful as it is to see a studio in use - Ms Chatterley is probably on vacation like most people do at this time of year.

RE: CNN - gman - 12-07-2023

The studio is very nice and all, but why invest in such a nice studio if you never show it?!
I can remember when London and Atlanta got new studios in the past, different shows had different presenting points. Some stood, some were by monitors, others sat at different angles... Now it's just someone sitting in front of a large screen using a tight, close-up shot.

NewscastStudio has published their writeup on The Source:

I agree with their analysis. It's a clunky and uninspired look. They need to shed the fake metal and red elements and go for something a little more sophisticated for 9pm.

RE: CNN - ginnyfan - 12-07-2023

Well at least the music is good, for a change. CNN US shows have bland, bad music. Also they seem to actually put some effort into using and showing the studio.

I disagree with that sweeping statement. I think the music for CNN News Central is briliant. And the theme for The Situation Room is iconic. Some are bland but 6 hours is News Central I wouldnt say its bland at all.

Oh, I forgot about NC, it's so new, but yes, it's great, and I said that when it debuted. Sit Room is of course great but everything else, especially their primetime shows, is abysmal.
