RE: CNN - alex.w - 12-07-2023

Speaking of First Move, I find it odd that Julia Chatterly hasn't returned to broadcasting from the NYSE like she did pre-COVID, and instead still airs from a flash studio. Even more odd since CNNI is still running ads for First Move showing Julia Chatterly on the floor of the NYSE. And somewhere along the way post-COVID, they decided to axe their opening intro and go straight into programming.

I remember seeing Zain Asher and Paula Newton covering Quest Means Business from the NYSE a couple times maybe a year or so ago as pandemic restrictions were being lifted, but that too hasn't happened recently, with both FM and QMB all coming from flash studios exclusively (except for when Richard is outside on summer Fridays in NYC or abroad).

I found the full CNNI Newsroom music:

Anyone have any thoughts on that recently launched “CNN Fast” channel?

That latest CNN Newsroom music is just too repetitive and kinda goes nowhere. Certainly a downgrade from the previous version.

I agree.  But I don’t think it’s meant to be heard in full like that, only in bits and pieces.

CNN Newsroom is just kind of the generic name for many newscasts that otherwise don’t have special branding or hosts.  So I guess it’s kind of fitting that the music is generic ;p.

For anyone who's interested, here's CNBC's Squawk Box in the old American Morning studio in 2016, shortly before the studio was closed.

Abby Phillip is filling in on CNN This Morning this week and she's rather prolific anchoring with Phil Mattingly.

I've had some assistance finding the clip on Archive from the opener from yesterday and you've got to applaud her sense of humour during the opening segment.

Mattingly - We'll figure out what Abby would do with $90 million...
Phillip - I wouldn't be sat next to you, for sure...

Take a look.

RE: CNN - oscillon - 18-07-2023

CNN/US has just done something new: at 2pm ET they made their special coverage of a US political event triple-headed (usually it is just two - one in NY, one in DC).

Most likely it is because Jake is not in DC, and it is Wolf who presides over the DC panel.

UPD. Jake in the meantime is talking to a third, smaller panel of political commentators in the open air on some balcony in South Carolina

Meanwhile, CNNI had a lot of culls today due to two breaking news in short succession:
8am hour was fully simulcast,
9am was half-simulcast (although I do not know if First Move that started at half past survived till 10am as the Trump news arrived at around that time),
Connect the World was on air only sometimes during 11am hour (first and last segment of the hour were US simulcast), its first hour also replaced by simulcast,
and Amanpour was not shown as well.

However, One World and Isa Soares Tonight have been broadcast in full, and the former even carried the presser about a soldier detained in North Korea - something CNN/US did not as it had gone in full Trump mode by then.

Yes, it is really nice to see her doing lighter formats than a heavy political show.

Jake Tapper is on the campaign with DeSantos and has a live interview with him at 4PM EST, so that's why he's on early I'm sure.

Kaitan Collins will have done a super stint by the time she's done today. She first appeared during the 9am hour of CNNNC.

The interview, as it appeared, was recorded earlier and just shown at 4pm.

So, to me it looks like a deliberate decision to bring in chief political anchor (Jake) despite the fact that he was away from the studio, while maintaining the manel in DC with Wolf.

If Jake hadn't been on the campaign trail I think they would have gone with the default scheme "Jake in DC + Anderson in NY" for such coverages.

However, it does explain how they managed to get some panel alongside Jake - this was originally pre-planned to discuss the interview with DeSantis.

That is if the special coverage does not continue in the evening and override her show (however even in that case she'll likely still be on the air as a correspondent/panelist).

DC News Central anchoring team, for example, were left twiddling their thumbs and did not make any appearance on air today.
