RE: CNN - sky303 - 20-07-2023

If anything they should do John and Allysn together as a primetime show, they already have been shown to work well as a duo and there you have an interesting set up for a primetime show others don't do.

Would people please stop referring to slot changes as demotions! It's ridiculous!

Is Abby Phillip's slot on CNN This Morning a demotion? NO! It's a try out and it worked well.

Licht has been gone not even a month, so quit with the speculation and allow the interim management some time to figure out what works for the presidential run. I really don't think fixing a PrimeTime slot is a priority right now .

That is actually what is strange in this possible setting: if Berman is in 11pm rota, they will need either to demote News Central to two presenters or find someone to replace him. In any case, it will seem like a demotion for him in terms of on-air time: from one hour (3 hours for 3 anchors) to half-an-hour (1 hours with two anchors rotating) on average.

Meanwhile, QMB has it first airing from the new Abu Dhabi studio.

No Oscillon! That's not how it is.

Open your mind a little. It goes beyond now.

Networks are planning for the run.

If anything , the way the ratings have been going the afternoon would be a promotion over primetime. MSNBC's highest rated shows have been the 4-6pm Deadline White House and sometimes the 6pm The Beat. Wolf seems to do better than CNN Tonight. FOX News Channel's the Five has been their top rated show.

But, a demotion is in the eye of the beholder. Mr. Berman at 11pm , he could enjoy having a bit more his mornings back to himself. In terms of viewership, I've seen News Central's hours about on par or slightly higher in views than 10 or 11pm ET.

Chris Marlin, head of strategy, is leaving CNN at the end of the month.

Also some interesting cover presenting choices tonight. Jim Acosta covered The Situation Room tonight. It was only a few years ago that he was the main cover for that show, it seems like Pamela Brown and Alex Marquardt have overtaken Jim in that department. The other cover is John King presenting AC360 for Anderson. Good to see him still doing some presenting work.

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 23-07-2023

Inside Politics Sunday from Studio 21L in New York today. The jib-cam shots really make the show look better than the fixed camera shots they are held to being “in the round” in DC. I wonder if this means Poppy and Abby will head CNN This Morning tomorrow.

Also Twitter and Instagram posts seem to indicate that Friday was the last day of the CNN Center Newsroom. Newsroom based teams move to Techwood in waves starting Monday. Still no word of which month to expect presenters to move over to Techwood.

Most likely this means that Abby will continue to anchor This Morning into the next week as well.

It appears that for the time being execs prefer Studio 19X in NY to studio D in DC for This Morning, even if both anchors are DC-based. Unsure if it has to do something with possible Trump coverage coming from Studio D, but Abby and Phil quickly relocated from DC to NY in a single afternoon last Tuesday - the same day there was a major Trump development and a possibility of his third indictment coming at any time. On Tuesday the show still came from DC, but the next morning both Abby and Phil were already in NY.

I’m glad they sent them to New York. 19X looks much better on camera than D for the morning show. Did leave a brief period where 3 of the 5 New York studios went unused.

Hopefully they’ll tighten up the roster soon. CNN needs to strengthen their morning show fast.

In reality This Morning was anchored today by Poppy Harlow and Erica Hill, so Abby Phillip either will pop up some time throughout the week or she just had her own reasons to be in NY this weekend.

UPD. Abby Phillip is actually doing CNN Primetime tonight.
