RE: CNN - sky303 - 08-09-2023

I think if they did it, it should be opt-in not an opt-out. Let the viewer choose if they want CNN updates on MAX to pop up, not have random pop ups then have to go and find an opt-out setting.

Do you not have mobile phones?

No, its highly unlikely CNN Max alerts would be used for weather. Thats not how  Weather warnings issued in the US and Canada. They are very localized and the warning are triggered from a local national weather office. As they would be disruptive on a national basis. Also within one storm system 1-20 or more tornado warnings can be issued. And multiple tornadoes can drop and this can continue for hours.  They wouldnt send out a Tornado warning for Alabama and sun is shining a couple of hundred miles away in Atlanta.

Have you heard of Tornadoes? Relying on mobiles phone is not the solution and is not the strategy set out by the National Weather Service.
https://www.weather.gov/unr/Warning_Systems
The EAS warning systems is built on utilizing MOBILE, BROADCAST and CABLE TV , AM/FM RADIO, NOAA RADIO and OUTDOOR SIRENS.

This how warnings are shown as red polygons. And are issued with in moments a tornado is seen on radar or their a potential rotation shown in the storm. In the areas outside the polygon, their phones, sirens or radios will not be triggered.

Here you can see how numerous and how localize tornado warning are. Each polygon represents a separate tornado warning officially issued.

Unless you are unaware, Tornadoes and other severe weather in the US and CANADA is not similar to the usual mild UK weather. It wont simply blow over your lawn chairs. They kill. So utilizing all forms of broadcast media prevents you and your family from being killed as you drive down the road, sleep in your bed in the middle of the night or watching Dancing With the Stars on ABC.  So yes Canadians and Americans have Mobile phones and no they arent relied on as the ONLY source of warning of impending death. The danger is that one point may fail and multiple points of warning is needed to alert people to take the proper precautions and still people are killed. So again using only mobile phones is not the solution and likely will never be.  Its not something you can just turn over and go back to sleep. You have to move and do something to protect you and your family.

FM RADIO

NOAA WEATHER RADIO  & MOBILE PHONES (Many Americans have NOAA radios they will be triggered in a localized area and make a noise or flash lights when a tornado warning is issued.  In addition to your mobile phone going off.)

TV ALERTS (As you will see the EAS systems in some areas, Takes over the screen no matter what channel you are watching. They dont all operate the same, but the idea is the same.)

RE: CNN - oscillon - 09-09-2023

A couple of news regarding CNN.

1. Kasie Hunt confirming on X/Twitter that she will take over Early Start next wekk, although apparently not on Monday, rather Tuesday or Wednesday.

And... may be she is hinting at something else as well "to come this fall"?

2. AC360 celebrates a jubilee today - 20 years on air to a day!

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 09-09-2023

Anderson Cooper 360 is celebrating its 20 year anniversary today.

The show premiered September 8th, 2003 at 7pm in a new primetime block that also featured “Paula Zahn Now” at 8pm. Anderson moved to 10pm in November 2005 to make way for an expanded “The Situation Room” before landing at 8pm in August 2011 after a series of failed primetime shows such as “Campbell Brown: No Bias, No Bull” and “Parker Spitzer” couldn’t make headway in the 8pm hour. Anderson would anchor at 8pm and 10pm until the launch of “AC360: Later” in September 2013, which was cancelled February 2014. From 2014-2016 Anderson would only anchor 9pm during breaking news (CNN aired long form programming during 9pm in early Zucker era) before eventually taking it over until Chris Cuomo came along in June of 2018.

RE: CNN - ginnyfan - 09-09-2023

Anderson and Wolf are still the best at domestic, others come and go but these two always prevail. Even during CNN's darkest age, the Trump years, they did not go 100% mad like the rest of them.

Anderson has done a lot of field reporting, from war zones and crisis regions, with many memorable moments. He also got to work and report together with many CNNI people.

RE: CNN - oscillon - 10-09-2023

At 9pm ET CNNI has aired a 3-minute repeat of Newsroom with Jim Acosta about Ukraine before World Sport started... Not sure what was the reason as World Sport has been, as usual on weekend evenings, recorded in advance.

Also, last night CNN/US ditched all usual repeats and simulcasted CNNI from midnight because of Morocco earthquake.

RE: CNN - TMD_24 - 12-09-2023

CNN This Morning is coming from Studio 19Y today, AKA the old New Day set.

Not a great start if you were watching on International, it crashed out of the show to play a highlight reel before quickly coming back in 30 secs later.
