RE: CNN - TMD_24 - 21-10-2023

Wolf's 100% working record during the Israel-Gaza war is going to continue. He's just announced at the end of The Situation Room that he will be on air Saturday and Sunday at 1pm ET to present CNN Newsroom.

International will do it's own opt-out coverage from 8pm-11pm Saturday/Sunday and 12am-3am Sunday/Monday UK time with Bianca Nobilo and Julia Chatterley this weekend.

RE: CNN - mouseboy33 - 23-10-2023

Hala Gorani is now an NBC News Correspondent. She has been on MSNBC generically as "middle east journalist" and now she is indicated as a NBC News Correspondent from Tel Aviv. I dont know it any one else has mentioned this. But it makes you wonder, what the heck is going on at CNN why she would walk away from her own Nightly programme on CNN? (Rhetorical question) But i guess we will never know the exact reason she walked away. She is a brilliant presenter. And a HUGE loss for CNN and CNNI especially in its degraded state. Maybe she was angling for and should have received a evening programme on CNN Domestic. I think personally she is a better fit than Kaitlyn Collins. Who is a brilliant reporter, but IMO she is not my favourite for a 1hr long programme.

RE: CNN - ginnyfan - 23-10-2023

I don't think Hala ever had any domestic aspirations, especially not in primetime, for which she's too good anyway.

She left CNN to work on her book and take some time off in general and she made it clear from the start she will be back, somewhere, eventually. This latest conflict maybe made that return sooner than planned but from what I've seen she's labeled as NBC/MSNBC contributor, not a regular reporter, so it's just a temporary gig,.

Too good....? In any event, thats wrong. She is no longer referred to as a contributor. I was watching with own eyes and ears she is definitely being referred on air and on screen as NBC News Correspondent. So i wouldnt say temporary. CNN's massive loss is NBC's gain by a mile.

You can watch the most recent reports here. All referring to her as correspondent not simply contributor.

Here is more about her sabbatical in Vogue magazine. Still interesting she left when loads of other presenters were stepping away. All at the same time. What people said in public is not always whats meant in private.

RE: CNN - TMD_24 - 23-10-2023

Jake Tapper is presenting The Lead from Tel Aviv today and presumably all this week.

Connect The World has returned to the schedule today but is only being broadcast for one hour at 3pm-4pm UK time with an hour of News Central before that. Eleni Giokos was presenting from Abu Dhabi.

RE: CNN - Charles - 24-10-2023

I made note of Hala's move a few pages back. She went from a few guest appearances to being labeled as an NBC News contributor in London. Now, she's in Tel Aviv and an NBC News correspondent. I thought the relationship was pretty casual, but it looks like things moved quickly.

I haven't seen her do any actual reporting in the streets yet. She's mostly just been giving her analysis and providing some much-needed background on NBC News Now and MSNBC, though I did also see her on NBC News Daily today. I don't think she's been on Nightly News or the Today show just yet.

If this is permanent, then I'm thrilled. I've always been a Hala fan, and I'm so glad to see her back on TV. She was a big loss for CNN. Of the main US networks, NBC is the only one by far that can rival CNN in international coverage.

Sorry Charles must have missed your post. You are sharp and eagle-eyed. Yeah I prefer NBC News for international coverage as far as the networks go. CBS News isnt a slouch. But NBC takes it especially if you factor in the additions of SkyNews UK and SkyTG24 Italia. Though there still isnt much obvious synergy with SkyTG24 yet.

RE: CNN - ginnyfan - 24-10-2023

Such a shame that NBC International news channel was canceled. Hala could have been its star anchor.

Anway, it's great to hear Hala is back on tv permanently, even though it's just as a reporter, and not on an international network. I guess this suits her well, she lives in London and can report for NBC from there.

RE: CNN - mouseboy33 - 24-10-2023

NBC and Sky could still realistically cobbled together an international FAST Channel with SkyNews/MSNBC/NBC News Now/NBC/CNBC/SkySports/SkyTG24 content. WIth a focus on international stories. Sky would be doing the heavy lifting in some respects. But any focus on Africa and Central/South America by both news orgs is glaring. But they do have the global resources to pull together pieces from Intl partners and repackage them. CNBC is all over the place. Would have been nice to see.

BUT just a thought popped in my head... Could they still be planning something and lured Hala outta her sabbatical? Speculation.

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 25-10-2023

Jim Sciutto and Jake Tapper are in Israel now.

So far Erin Burnett, Anderson Cooper, Kaitlan Collins, Sara Sidner and Becky Anderson have all anchored from Israel.

Comparing this to the Ukraine coverage, none of the CNNi overnight anchors have been dispatched yet. We’re also seeing anchors staying longer than a week or two. Unless Becky has left, I don’t think anyone has returned home yet.
