We’re finally at the point in the timeline that I feel nostalgia towards. I first found out about CNN International right around the time of the 2013 HD changes and couldn’t believe how different it felt from US channel. I remember discussing the blue era and seeing some of the caps above on the now defunct CNNFan forum. It’s quite incredible how different CNN as an organization is now compared to 2013.

Thinking about it, CNN Center was the last studio that still had newsroom bones. 10 years ago London, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Atlanta all has sets that used to feature the adjacent newsroom. As much as we all can hope for the return of an on-air newsroom, it’s very clearly a relic of the past for CNN.

Wow, that's interesting. Who was anchoring them? CNNI anchors (Isa Soares? Richard Quest? Their shows got scrapped on CNNI yesterday) or rather CNN Max ones (like Jim Sciutto)?

CNNI anchors. Julia Chatterly, Zain Asher, Isa Soares, Richard Quest. Some branded as newsroom, but they also did CTW, One World, Isa Soares Tonight, and Quest Means Business. Something like 6 straight hours only being shown on Max while CNNI itself was simulcasting Doemstic.

It was really weird.

Maybe Jim Sciutto and much of the CNN Max team got the week off for Thanksgiving. So why does that fall to CNNI then? It shouldn’t.

Oh yeah 2014, was the last year CNNI felt like it was cared for somewhat, before things started going down hill, They still had weekend newscasts , weather in the newscasts, but Hong Kong was being slashed, at least they still had News Stream. I liked the additions Lynda Kinkade and Robyn Curnow. Robyn's International Desk was good too. I will say I like the warmer colors for CNN Newsroom they used then.

Looking through some HLN and HLN in Atlanta Stuff, I remember Evening Express , they launched an evening show with Ryan Smith, Clark Howard, and Isha Sesay.

They had the studio in this set up.

Also, when the old "In Session" what used to be called Court TV News programming, moved to Atlanta they had a studio there too, I'm not sure what it was called ... HLN would use it too at times.

CNNI still had weekend newscasts (and Robyn and Lynda) well past 2014. Regular weekend newscasts only went away at the start of the pandemic in March 2020. And they’ve never fully come back.

The 6ish hours from 12a ET to 6am ET aren’t nothing though!! And CNNI is far more likely to add newscasts on weekends these days for the benefit of Max.

Ah, I remember In Session! That was how they rebranded live programming when Court TV became TruTV. And then they got rid of live programming on TruTV altogether, like they would do years later to HLN as well.

Side note…. Court TV exists again AND is actually based in Atlanta with some of the same anchors…. But it’s owned by Scripps.

I think Nancy Grace also used that In Session studio…. And later on, the CNN weather team used it, I believe.

One thing that they never cared to change are the coloured squares and white lines on the studio floor.
