RE: CNN - EastCoast - 02-01-2024

My notes are a bit hazy, I have that the The Situation Room aired on CNNI in the late 2000s/early 2010s, at the very least airing on the EMEA feed. This ended around 2011/2012. The simulcast of Wolf at 1pm ET ran from 9/29/14 - 9/7/18, after which The Lead with Jake Tapper at 4pm ET began airing on CNNI.

While The Situation Room hasn't been a regular fixture since 2012, I'm sure many of us have gripped on previous iterations of this forum about CNN Today and Your World Today being needlessly dropped for a simulcast.

Iirc it was at some point after CNN Today (Atlanta version with Michael and Amara) launched that the EMEA feed stopped showing TSR.

Today’s afternoon edition of News Central aired from Studio D instead of A/B.

Jim Sciutto’s Newsroom doesn’t appear to be using the window view of the Capitol anymore. He’s now in front a monitor with room for a guest:

Paula Hancocks has been relocated to Abu Dhabi, probably replacing Sam Kiley who left CNN in november. Seul's position seems vacant, despite Marc Stewart being there at the moment.

Not to keep dwelling on CNN’s DC studio use, but all shows from 11am-7pm used Studio D, yet Laura Coates is in Studio B right now.

I doubt CNN is doing any work to the big studio; however, I do wonder if daytime is trying to consolidate studios as a cost cutting measure or if they needed resources from DC to cover Iowa.

If both editions of News Central are still using chairs on Monday and the DC edition is still in D, we’ll have to assume cost cutting and that the whole concept has been scrapped.

Wherever they are, it all looks awful. Hard to believe someone allows these gray tin boxes to go on air.

Meanwhile, Laila Harrak is back on air and back in Atlanta after her stint in Barcelona.

I didn't realise Sam Kiley had left CNN. Do we know where he has gone or going to next?

There wasn’t any announcement but if you go to his LinkedIn, it says he left in November.

Alright guys, time to call it. The CNN News Central concept is officially dead.

CNN News Central opened with voice-over headlines and all three anchors seated at the desk. It’s a shame, I thought the format worked quite well. Having three anchored seated feels like a breakfast show (which arguably John, Kate, and Sara would work well hosting).

How long until the News Central brand is reverted back to Newsroom?
