Good decision to slash those totally unrealistic, outrageously high salaries. Most of these ''star'' anchors can't equal what they earn and ratings/ revenue they bring to the network so it's about time some balance was achieved there.

Also, they could get rid some of the many talking heads they have on, I mean all of these people that pop up for political coverage. Stick to a your reporters and actual reporting.

CNN could become more like the BBC with regular news bulletins every hour, keeping the primetime hours as more anchor driven. That wouldn't be a bad thing.

Spot on!

On average there CNN are utilizing 14 US anchors per weekday - that's an insane amount of money and it's no wonder Thomspon is looking to Anchor costs to save money. His problem is, and as highlighted in the piece posted above, getting rid of anyone with clout would seal the deal for MSNBC and CNN could wave a fond farewell to ever getting a foot hold on ratings in the US.

It’s incredible what they pay Chris Wallace for a once a week show in the mornings!

Honestly, this could be a watershed moment. If CNN makes their anchors take a pay cut, then I'm sure NBC, Fox, et al would be happy to follow their lead. US local news anchors saw their salaries bumped down from implausible levels about 10-15 years ago. It's probably time for national anchors to see the same.

We are long past the conventional wisdom where TV networks felt compelled to pay top dollar for anchors because they thought ratings would decline if they didn't. We have seen time and time again cases where high-profile anchors are replaced with less expensive ones, and the ratings don't really end up changing all that much. You think the TODAY show is any less profitable without Matt Lauer, or that any viewers still think about him and wonder why he isn't on their TV anymore?

He has two shows. “The Chris Wallace Show” on Saturday at 10am ET. And he also still hosts “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” but now it’s exclusive to CNN Max instead of also airing on domestic.

Don’t forget, that’s the same show he was hired to do for CNN+!! The only CNN+ show to survive. He was a big get at the time, being poached from Fox News. One of the very few respected journalists who worked there.

He also acts as an analyst often enough.

Yes but if there is a person who does not deliver what is paid is him. Never delivered good ratings nor have made some good reporting or news-making interview.

Moreover I don’t get how his satuday’s show panelists got a promotion to CNN commentators because they seem to be just what Mark Thompson wants to end.

I really love the London studio and now we can finally, again, see a bit more of it. It has many different parts and corners, with lots of glass, doors etc so we can actually see what surrounds it (hallways, gallery etc). I wonder what's this room on the left with 2 plasma screens showing time. Also, is the newsroom behind the brickwall?

Everyone think for a second...musta been a ...uhm..horrible to lug that camera up them tiny stairs. (LOL). Im sure they dismantled bits. Just funny imagining them draging that thing up the stairs. Probably needs some cheapo PTZs up there so that one can be used elsewhere int he studio. But a nice shooting location, nonetheless.

Some changes in the CNNi schedule for the next week, Wednesday to Friday (as listed on cnn.com):
- World Sport at 13.30 CET
- NEWSROOM with F. Withfeld at 14.00 CET
- NEWSROOM with Rahel Solomon instead of State of the Race.

What happened to Connect the World!? Why just from Wednesday?

Cooect the World stays in its place, 9-11 am ET. What changes is
a) Looks like they are streamlining the 8 am hour production by merging CNNI and CNN/Max output (effectively, CNN/Max show takes over). World Sport shifts one hour earlier, and Max Foster seems to lose half an hour of airtime.
b) For some reason, State of the Race is either temporarily (until they find a new anchor) or permanently culled and replaced by a CNN/Max-produced Newsroom.

As to why from Wednesday - they recently have a pattern of not implementing changes at the start of the week.
