It looked pretty much permanent.

Kim Brunhuber has just promoted the change as well. They are making it sound like it’s permanent. I guess we’ll find out when the European clocks go forward at the end of the month.

At least the change has the advantage of starting QMB with the closing bell on Wall Street like it once did! The current arrangement where Quest comes back after 15 minutes of filler for the closing bell feels a bit odd and disjointed.

A closer look at CNN's new Techwood studio from NewscastStudio. The set was designed by Clickspring Design and will feature AR virtual set extensions in the future.

This is a really extensive writeup. A lot to forward to with AR and a side of the studio we haven't seen yet!

I just wish that someone put some sense on First Move's timeslot, because an Asian breakfast show airing Tuesdays to Saturdays is just weird.

Wow, so there is a whole chunk of the studio that we haven't seen (and that isn't ready yet)!

From the scheme in the article it appears that some of the LED panels in this yet-unseen part will be movable and moving them (aside?) merges the studio with a green screen space allowing for more substantive AR extensions in that corner.

Additionaly, one has to wonder if the two parts of the studio can be used separately at the same time, like Studio A/B in DC. On Saturday there are still two concurring midday broadcasts from Atlanta - Newsroom with Fredricka Whitfield on Domestic and World Sport on International.
With the studio of that size both of them can find their home there. However, I did not see any delimiter between the two parts in the plan that could isolate them from other corner's noise, so it seems World Sport might still end up in the green screen space or the cupboard...

RE: CNN - gman - 08-03-2024

So maybe CNN International Newsroom will be coming from the area to the left that has yet to be unveiled. It would explain the wait...

RE: CNN - mouseboy33 - 08-03-2024

That extra presentation point is a good surprise. I think what fooled me is the image from Rosemary Church's Insta showing her just outside the studio doors and all we could see was the edge of the yellow sofa. So it looked like there was nothing else to see. But also the fact that they didnt show the other area when the studio debuts or at least when Victor mentioned the space briefly they didnt swing a camera past it at least. So clearly its not ready. Probably supply chain issues or something.

Virtual extensions if done correctly, look really good or you wind up with that "abandon office/gallery during a fire drill" look. (I personally hate that). Empty rooms with flicking screens and empty chairs. Puh-leeze. To me it looks awful. Or you get set extensions that dont look like they are rooted in reality at all.

One example i do like was reported recently by Newscastsstudio for WTTW and how they implemented virtual elements into their live broadcasts. it features a set extension as well as the ceiling completely being masked. And its quite successful. And again this is not a national broadcast but for the Chicago market. So I'd like to think CNN's will be even nicer when implemented. I do think they should have launched using it. Instead of after the fact. I hate that. Lets hope it looks good in any event.

Still trying to figure out how this opens to the green screen area...But it doesnt seem that can be divided like DC studios or its not clear logistically how that can work. But it will be interesting to see. But it does seems they are trying to build out another studio for CNNi. For now they definitely sharing this space. Or someones gonna be in the DTL/Flash studio.

RE: CNN - ginnyfan - 08-03-2024

I thought there must be more to this set than we what we saw last weekend. It would be tragic if there isn't.

Would make sense for CNN Newsroom to use that other side of the studio, hopefully it's bigger (looks like it from the floorplan) and has more options. Maybe an actual newsroom can be put on those VR elements?
