RE: CNN - EastCoast - 08-03-2024

Looking back at Rosemary’s picture, the backside of the movable video wall behind the main anchor desk is behind her. I don’t think any of us could have expected that.

I’m curious just how much they will use the virtual set extension. MSNBC did the same thing in Studio 3A, I don’t know if it gets any use outside of election coverage. ESPN has started using AR during SportsCenter, which seems to work well. Realistically I can see the green screen studio being the new weather center and maybe the home of World Sport. Echoing Ginnyfan’s thoughts that a newsroom extension would be wonderful.

Edit: Jim Sciutto signed off from his 2pm show confirming the show will be at a new time, 3pm, and also air on CNN International, which means today was the last day of a live CNN Max exclusive broadcast.

RE: CNN - Charles - 08-03-2024

I suppose it's perfectly fine for all the different kinds of programs it will host. Plus, we all know that it'll be used 90% of the time as just a tight shot of an anchor in front of a cityscape backdrop anyway. The space constraints of the studio remind me a bit of the old BBC Breakfast studio in Salford.

It still would have been nice to have had a simple newsroom set or even just a flash cam. Look at the new Sky News set in Westminster – it's not big or fancy, but it has nice lighting and an active backdrop that make it feel a little more engaging than just another video wall with some graphics on it.

That's interesting, the 8am ET hour of CNN International Newsroom became a CNN Max cast, airing Newsroom at 11AMET replacing State of the Race again (good move) , airing Connect the World on Max (which is a nice move) and now I guess airing Isa's newscast on Max and have CNN Newsroom Max, I wonder if they will CNN International Newsroom the look of it, and hope Quest airs on CNN Max still. They can still air the 5pm ET hour of the Lead where CNN i drops away for World Sport.

Either way , interesting CNNI's amount of CNN US simulcasting has dropped at 7:30am ET, now 4pm ET and 6pm ET (except in North America) this year.

Isabel Rosales in for Amara Walker. Isabel is awkwardly on the end of the secondary desk rather than being centered with Victor. No in studio weather since Elisa Raffa is on location in Atlanta.

Uhm, let's hope that's not your permanent new set, Patrick. Dodgy

As for today's CNN This Morning, what a bizarre way to seat the presenters. Surely that desk can accommodate both anchors, sitting normal on each side of it.

Normal seat arrangement today.

May be some camera issues yesterday, or something wrong with the other end of the desk... The shots of that desk yesterday were all pretty tight.

On a separate note, there is a schedule change - Inside Politics today is back in its old slot at 8a ET, with another airing at 11a ET/8a PT.

Interestingly, like with all recent scheduling changes (that consitute a lot), there was no official press release about any of it.

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 10-03-2024

Coy Wire made his in-studio debut today.

The pops of yellow around the studio work really well to make the morning show look vibrant. Visually this might be the best iteration of CNN This Morning (and would have fit well in the 5-7am weekday slot)

As for the latest schedule change, I do wonder what Amara’s contract looks like. For the longest time she had 6 hours a week (4 Sat + 2 Sun), then 7 after they moved Inside Politics to 11am, 5 after they introduced First of All and The Chris Wallace Show, 9 after they launched Newsroom on CNN Max, 8 after they moved her weekday show to CNN International, and now 7 with Inside Politics back at 8am!

RE: CNN - inletwindow - 10-03-2024

Techwood does have the capability to have sets from the newsrooms. At least temporary ones.

CNN en Espanol had some people broadcasting from a Techwood newsroom for their State of the Union coverage. They had a desk with up to 3 people sitting at it.

Someone who was part of their coverage posted a bunch of videos on his FB, including:

RE: CNN - mouseboy33 - 10-03-2024

Thats good that they set up a spot in the newsroom. I wonder if that was set up for CNNe's election coverage. Interesting that CNNe is broadcasting anything from Atlanta. Likely just for the election coverage.
