The developer who owns the building announced it will be rebranded as “The Center.”

Wow. Terrible name.

They put up some concept art and are reaching out to possible retail and office tenants.

Been wondering how much of the space CNN was actually using at Atlanta's peak? Seems like a massive space. I'd imagine there were always other companies leasing parts of it?

Aside from the Omni hotel, which occupies part of the building, the only publicly accessible level is/was the atrium level.

The atrium level had three sit-down restaurants at its peak. Two have since closed. One is still open.

There also is a food court. It used to have at least half a dozen different options. Most have closed.

Also was an Atlanta souvenir shop and I think a Braves shop…. Plus the CNN Tour booth and CNN/Turner store. And an A&T store in later years.

I vaguely recall some office space as well, but none was ever for lease above the atrium level.

The old dot com newsroom was also on the atrium level… I hear it used to be a movie theater years ago.

The atrium also used to have an ice skating rink many years ago.

And there’s a big athletic center one level down… it had been for employees only.

I did the VIP tour back in 2015 where we went into the newsroom, gallery and studio 7 (while they were on air!), was enjoyable. A shame it's all closing.

In the wake of tomorrow's full solar eclipse CNN now airs a one-hour live special anchored by Bill Weir in DC, utilizing Studio A/B in nightly and cosmic colors.

Tomorrow CNN will have two separate coverages of the eclipse itself, both from noon to 4pm ET. On Domestic it will be DC News Central team, i.e. Boris Sanchez and Brianna Keilar. On CNNI, and most likely Max, it will be Rahel Solomon and Richard Quest anchoring, with Amanpour taking the 11am slot. Wonder if Rahel & Richard will get some decent studio for the occasion or if they will remain stuck in the same cupboard that is so capable of accomodating Bianna and Zain for One World, but not anyone else of the (possible) guests.

RE: CNN - TMD_24 - 08-04-2024

CNN Max/International is in the Atlanta studio for their eclipse coverage rather than a broom cupboard. Hooray!

RE: CNN - mark - 08-04-2024

I don't really understand why there's separate coverage when it's purely a US story. I'd have thought a simulcast would make sense and cost less too.

Wow, so they rolled two NY-based anchors (plus Bill Weir who was in DC just last night) to Atlanta to give them a studio! As if they're out of spare studios in New York at that time of the day... Big Grin On the other hand, great to see them showcasing their newest Studio H for the occasion!

The start of the coverage looked very jovial.

Meteorologist, who pops up from time to time, does it from the smaller screen in the same studio, just like on This Morning Weekend (however they opted not to do a wide shot with both the anchors, the guests at the table AND the meteorologist, using a split screen instead).

On the Domestic side it's all a bit duller studio-wise, as Boris & Brianna are out and about on the streets of Indianapolis.

Domestic coverage uses a separate meteorologist who is in the green screen studio that is utilized outside of the weekends and imitates former meteo studio in the now-defunct CNN Center.

I believe it's all about CNN Max that cannot simulcast CNN(US), the flagship CNN channel, too much or the cable providers will get very upset as they want the main CNN channel to be exclusive to them and not be simulcast on the streaming services such as Max.

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 08-04-2024

Enjoying the CNNi coverage more than the domestic version. It’s nice to see Rahel and Richard in studio, they seem to be getting along well. I’m sure one of the more tenured members here will be along to say this feels like the old CNN Today or Your World Today.

Work on the other side of the studio must still be going on since they aren’t using the bigger desk. Funny that the first CNNI anchors to use Studio H are from New York. If they could just get a copy of that desk in New York Rahel and Richard could start using the small studio Fareed Zakaria anchors from!

RE: CNN - scottishtv - 08-04-2024

The CNNi coverage is pretty relaxed, which is a nice tone for this type of event - Richard Quest playing around with a model of planet earth, the moon and the sun. Ha.

That said, if there was ever a time to have Wolf tell viewers to "stand by, everybody stand by for an historic moment", it's today!

RE: CNN - ginnyfan - 08-04-2024

Thank God for CNN Max cause without it, we would never get our CNNI anchors doing coverage for US, the world viewers. Richard & Rahel are great, the studio is nice and they have a lot of guests and reporters all over the continent.
