As Who's Talking returns from the break and launches a third season, it also makes a little disturbance in CNN schedule as it will no longer come on air on Sundays. Instead, it's new airing time is Friday 10 pm ET with a repeat (on DOmestic) three hours later for Pacific viewers.

Quote:CNN announced today that Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? will return for its third season on HBO Max and CNN on Friday, April 28. The best of the full HBO Max interviews will continue to air on CNN, beginning April 28 at 10pm ET/PT.

That opens up 7pm hour on Sunday either for Newsroom or for this new Gayle King thing.

However, given that Friday has already Maher's Overtime at 11:30 pm, what they will do in the remaining half-an-hour between Wallace ending at 11pm and Maher? A bonus bulletin from CNNI? Or will they extend Wallace to 90 minute length?

lol, a "bonus bulletin" would fall on the CNNI OVN team, which already typically does SIX shows Friday into Saturday. I think there's no chance of that happening. They wouldn't want that as a lead in to Overtime.

Also, don't forget that Overtime is just a 10-ish minute segment. There can still be an entire show around it -- why not CNN Tonight like how it is now?

RE: CNN - sky303 - 22-04-2023

Looking at the listings I see they are going to repeat The Whole Story on Fridays as well at 9pm ET, Then Wallace is on at 10pm ET, then CNN Tonight at 11pmET. Interesting Friday approach they are going for here. Guide shows CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta on that Sunday 4/30 at 7pm ET. (That does open the slot up if they want to put something else there in some time. I wonder if "The Whole Story" will have breaks and seasons too.

CNN appears to favour the approach of "one dedicated team per show", so a different anchor might mean a different team as well and they might want to avoid that while retaining the overall approach.

Adweek claims that CNN couldn’t support building a team in DC for Laura Coates. While it makes sense, it’s a shame that Laura faced the ultimatum of moving to NY or not having a Primetime show.

Something to remember if Kaitlan Collins lands 9pm…

I agree that there isn’t much weight in the article; although, it’s something to be mindful of as a major news organization. CNN made a point of highlighting the diversity in their previous schedule (notably the promotions of Victor Blackwell, Abby Phillip, Jim Acosta, Ana Cabrera and Boris Sanchez). While Victor, Laura, and Don’s latest moves have rational explanations, it’s always worth a Reality Check to make sure that there isn’t an optics issue, or worse, a culture issue.

I am no fan of Chris Licht, but as far as I can recall, CNN haven't actually hired any new anchors through his tenure so far. It appears to be utilising existing anchors far better to be honest.
You’re right. In the Licht Era: Brian Stelter has been fired, Ana Cabrera and Christi Paul have left, and Pamela Brown has lost a regular anchoring roster. CNN filled roles in-house with Amara Walker, Kaitlan Collins, and Sara Sidner receiving new anchoring duties. No new hires might be in part due to the excess of talent from CNN+ still roaming the halls. If Don Lemon were to leave the morning show I’d expect Audie Cornish to take his role. If Kaitlin were to leave the morning show I’d expect Erica Hill or Biana Golodryga to inherit her seat. Still not sure where Kasie Hunt will land.

Speaking of 9pm, this past week it was all Pamela Brown, sometimes from NY, sometimes from DC.

Kaitlan, though, must have been on leave as she was absent from This Morning as well.

New show with Gayle King and Charles Barkley to air on Wednesday nights from later this year. The show will be called “King Charles”…

RE: CNN - TMD_24 - 22-04-2023

That name of the show though. 😬😬

I'm up to see how this does and good to see it all confirmed. Not seen much of Charles Barkley as the main host but he's a recognised name with Gayle so looking forward to seeing this start.

Wednesday night is an interesting slot to put it in. This may well be the start of Licht wanting to put different shows on different weeknights rather than your normal Monday-Friday prime time schedule though Dylan Byers has reported that the new show is only contracted for 20 weeks so it could be be axed if it doesn't perform.

RE: CNN - EastCoast - 22-04-2023

Not sure that name’s going to go over well on the CNNI simulcast. Either way, happy to see this come to fruition. This also feels like a show that would feature on (HBO) Max, like Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?.
