It may feature as the idents but like The Boy, Mole etc last year Tabby McTat will likely be hidden away on another day and being aimed at kids, it won't have mass appeal. I think you have to go back to the Only Fools and Horses trilogy in 1996 for a centrepiece, something that was head and shoulders above anything else in terms of people wanting to watch. There has been stuff like Mrs Brown's Boys, Gavin and Stacey that have performed well since but with an element of surprise of how well and I can't remember them being raved about beforehand to the extent that OFAH was.

I don’t know. The Royle Family felt like a centrepiece at least when it first returned, and Gavin & Stacey’s 2019 return was huge at the time - not just a “surprise” but highly trailed and anticipated in advance. Not quite the same level of “must see” as OFAH maybe, but certainly they were treated as a centrepiece of the schedule in a way very recent years seem to be missing.

I suppose it's hard to make a case in recent years because animation won't appeal to everyone, most drama tends not to be nice enough to launch a campaign with and the tiny amount of "new" shows which debut at Christmas are basic, OK but not spectacular. If the BBC were to have thrown everything around Blankety Blank in 2020, people would have thought, "really?".

Christmas idents launching after Strictly. Tabby will be first one shown.

It would have made more sense to launch them just after Doctor Who and before Strictly, given the ratings dip from 7 - 8m for Strictly to around 2m for Survivor.

Can't find a forum for BBC Scotland and don't think it's worth a new thread. Interesting that for a 5th year, the BBC Scotland channel won't have any Christmas idents. They'll use other festive branding, including festive trail endboards, next/later graphics etc, but will then lead into their regular symbols. I think it shows the audience that the corporation don't care about the channel.

To be fair there never did, The public wanted a better BBC one Scotland IE Scottish Six and some more comedy's and features.

Christmas Promos have declined a lot haven’t they

From ridiculously lavish (probably too lavish) John Lewis style films, to just a BBC iPlayer advert with snow on top

RE: BBC One Christmas 2023 - Brekkie - 02-12-2023

Yes - that snow effect looks so cheap.

This ident just isn't working for me - it's cute but that's about all I can say about it. The Christmas element of it is almost not there at all, and even if not having the lens effect it misses having a central element that connects them all like the tree in the Shaun the Sheep idents.
