I turn into a broken record on this, but worth remembering that the mechanical symbols of old tied up a studio (Pres B) so the limited window that they were used for was more out of necessity than choice.

That's true, although the practice of airing the Christmas ident for just 3 days (with the occasional extension to 4 or 5 days in the years when there were Bank Holidays in lieu) would remain in place all the way up to 1999, long after the mechanical models had ceased to be used.

Ah, that explains why 1994's snowmen (the Boxing Day variant with the wrapping paper gone) remained in place until 28th December, as the 27th was a Bank Holiday.

Isn't "16:9 FHA" which is on that VT clock an SD term, and it's fair to say the ident is almost certainly not in SD- presumably using the wrong terminology there, as HD isn't "full height anamorphic".

It's a Wales variant. Is their local news still SD, upscaled for HD, rather than native HD? If so it wouldn't surprise me if the same goes for the ident.
