Was just having a look at the refreshed Pirate FM / Hits Radio Cornwall website...

This is a really nice page - not seen many designed like that on Planet Radio. They're all a bit clinical usually!

And the logo still looks awful. They had an opportunity here with the rebrands of the heritage stations to go for something completely different for Hits.

Global don't have any of these issues with their brand logos, they all look slick and suit their brands.

The only positive is that some of those stations no longer have the awful YOUR branding with the station name in the middle of it.

And the tired imaging rolls on. Sigh.

As an aside, £1 in the swear jar from Claire on Hits South Wales for mentioning the old name less than 15 minutes in. I suspect we'll be seeing that from a few of the breakfast hosts this morning.

Absolutely agree. Not being biased because I work at Global, and I respect Hits massively but the logo is definitely their weakness.

Here is how the launch sounded in South Yorkshire:

And the launch of GHR on FM in Cornwall was extremely subdued. Jingle-free news, then straight into Greatest Hits at Breakfast. However, the TOTH at 7am acknowledged the change:

I'm going to be uploading some output from the entire Hits Radio network (plus GHR in Cornwall) throughout the day. Once the first clips are ready, I'll share the links here.

The Carlton star, from what I've read and seen online, came in on CNW when they moved in early 2000 but on CNE it was introduced at the same time as the idents (though CNS was slightly later in around March 2000).

I still don't believe that this clip was held on tape for 'when' Carlton decided to ditch the regional identities though.

The Central versions of the 1996 Carlton idents, AIUI from a long lost video with a VT clock I had, produced in May 1997 (and as we now know, unlike their Carlton equivalents were produced in 16:9), and by October 1996,Lenton Lane was now known as 'Carlton Studios' and sufficiently signed as such:

Note the proportions (but also the presence of the Central logo) - I think that it was all part of a 'scheme', for want of a less sinister sounding word - that probably dates back to when Carlton first acquired all of Central. Almost as if they were phasing in the Carlton name and removing Central, given that the Central name was quite 'strong' in its respective region, which would explain why there was a piece on Central News, I assume this was an effort to try and be a dominant player in a consolidated ITV. Carlton were clearly quite clear with their strategy of having everything branded as Carlton with whatever thereafter - (Television, Screen Advertising, Books, Publishing, .com, Media, London, Central, Westcountry)...

The new Hits Radio TV ad is here! I do hope we get local versions for the newly rebranded stations.

RE: Hits Radio Rebrand Rollout - Omnipresent - 17-04-2024

A new TV advertising campaign for Hits Radio also launches today:

https://www.bauermedia.co.uk/news/hits-radio-launches-first-ever-tv-ad-campaign/

Quote:Hits Radio has today launched its first ever TV ad campaign, fronted by presenters Sam Thompson, Fleur East and Gemma Atkinson. The 30 second spots reflect the role of the station in its audience’s lives and sees the presenters out and about and visiting listeners across the country.

Airing from the 17th April, the new campaign will be seen in ad breaks during shows such as Gogglebox, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and Late Night Lycett and help to position Hits Radio as the UK’s pop station for 25-44s, delivering relatable, entertaining and authentic content that is everywhere where their listeners are – be that on air, online, or in person through curated live events.

The campaign follows last year’s successful marketing push of sister brand Greatest Hits Radio and comes as Bauer Media recently announced that sixteen of its local stations in England and Wales were rebranding to Hits Radio. The move means that even more listeners across the UK will be able to listen to Hits Radio’s ARIA award winning music formula of today’s biggest hits and biggest throwbacks, whilst still enjoying a mixture of locally and nationally produced programming and regular local news, information, traffic and travel.

The TV spot will also be supported by OOH, digital and print activity.

Discussing the new ad, Anne Marie-Lavan, Chief Marketing Officer for Bauer Media Audio UK said: “The driving force behind this campaign was always the intention to reflect everything we know Hits Radio listeners love about the station – the realness, our talent and of course the music – and I believe that’s exactly what we’ve achieved. I’m hugely proud of the ad – the first for Hits Radio – and of all of the brilliant team here at Bauer who helped bring it all together.’

Likewise, I was hopeful they would improve the visual appearance of the brand.

If anything, this minor refresh has *somehow* managed to make it slightly worse. The new green is foul and the layouts leave a lot to be desired.

GHR has a stronger visual style after a few years of evolution. Agreed with the comments above - it all feels very second division in comparison to Global's slick stable.
