Sometimes I think I'm the only person that liked Shafted.

I remember the last episode of Challenge's version of Blockbusters (from the early 2010s) ended with a contestant about to do the Gold Run, but the episode ended there. Given Challenge's version wasn't renewed, I wonder if the girl ever got paid for the round she did.

Because people don't have to play the everything's great and I'll do as I'm told in TV game.

Her five months wait is not too bad, but some other shows which are on the shelf for longer that must be quite frustrating.

It’s certainly not an across the board policy. When I was lucky enough to win a few quid on Tipping Point, the money was in my bank within six weeks of recording, which was about 18 months before broadcast.

But they weren’t even moaning about it, quotes from them seemed very matter of fact about it.

With regards to Deal or No Deal, I remember back in 2007 in an interview, Noel Edmonds said they filmed three episodes a day over five days, so having 15 episodes in the can in one week. So it seems that the reboot is keeping to a similar schedule as the original version.

Noel also spoke of the delay between recording and transmission, with some contestants waiting up to six months before seeing their show air.

There was one moment, when during the show, something happened, which caused Noel to escort someone out of the studio, and when they opened the doors into the back lot, we could see that the trees were in full bloom and it looked like it was roasting hot outside, and Noel said "we have a different eco system here in Bristol" to anyone who questioned why a show airing in November had an outdoor feel of mid summer.

First post back in ages and got a wee silly question from following along:

What is the longest gap between an episode of a gameshow being filmed to it being aired? Sorry to ask.

RE: The TV Gameshow Thread - Jon - 02-03-2024

I’m pretty sure they had to squeeze four shows a day in during later years, after the budget was cut. I also think they may have been at least a year ahead of broadcast by the end, with Edmonds complaining he had no certainty of the future of the programme and then they got On Tour series commissioned.
I’d imagine they’d want to keep costs as a low as possible, so if they can do 4 a day, they’d do that.

I do wonder if the show might return to its spiritual home of Bristol, not sure if it’s they’ve confirmed the next batch of episodes will be made in Salford again. But Tipping Point is already at The Bottle Yard and with Deal or No Deal looking to cut into the commission, it might make sense to move it. Although it might depend on where production teams are based. Not that the Bottle Yard was the original Bristol home, or that I’d expect ITV to do it for sentimental reasons. And as they were filming from June it would also work better geographically for Mulhern’s summer job as a Butlins red coat particularly for the Minehead branch.

Probably that early Deal or No Deal episode with the contestant who’d suffered a bereavement. Pretty sure it was shown on Challenge eventually but not until many years later. Luckily they still paid out, would have been bad PR if they didn’t under those circumstances.

It's actually moving to Maidstone TV studios according to the contestant application form.

Couple of open ended contenders for which the gap between filming and broadcasting grows longer every day:
Press Ganged (filmed in 2004 and then was never aired - why was never disclosed)
Man Versus Beast (scheduled for 2003 and was then pulled).

As for stuff that did get aired...
There were those episodes of 2007 Supermarket Sweep that ITV didn't air and they ended up debuting on Challenge two or three years later. This happened with another show as well, but I can't remember what it was, it might have been Joe Pasquale's Price is Right.

According to to One Question Shootout there's a few Series 14 episodes of The Chase that haven't appeared yet, best part of two and a half years down the line.
