RE: The TV Gameshow Thread - Happy2001 - 01-03-2023

The Next Series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire will be it's last according to Variety:
https://variety.com/2023/tv/global/jeremy-clarkson-millionaire-canceled-itv-1235538599/

“We have a contract. We’re contracted to this [season], so we will do that,” said [Carolyn] McCall. “And then we have no future commitments. And we haven’t made any statements about that.”

When asked whether ITV may be in discussions about potentially continuing the show, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Stellify Media, down the road, McCall simply shrugged. (Sony declined to comment on this story.) "

TBH even disregarding the scandal over Christmas it was probably close to coming to an end again anyway. I would say of ITV's three big money quiz shows (also including Limitless Win and Beat the Chasers) this is the most tired and crucially the only one not hosted by someone on the ITV roster, plus it probably has the highest average payouts too considering everyone just coasts to six figures nowadays.

Talking of Beat the Chasers any news on that returning - not seen anything about another series being filmed. Isn't there still at least one episode with the Aussie chaser to air?

This says filming is taking place in May...

RE: The TV Gameshow Thread - Score - 01-03-2023

The headline says Millionaire is axed but nothing in the article backs that up. The quotes just say they’re committed to this series and then nothing after that, but given that they’ve only just filmed this series and it’s several months away from airing, that doesn’t seem a particularly unusual place to be.

The ratings were decent for the last series in the later Saturday slot, I guess they’ll wait to see how the next series is received before deciding anything further.

ITV seems to be on an axing spree, they'd better actually start commissioning some new shows.

In With a Shout with Joel Dommett has was recently commissioned, and a pilot for a show called Stacking It! was recorded last year, also with Joel and wife Hannah.

Try telling that to the people running the official Millionaire Twitter:

I don't understand your point? The tweet seems to back up what Score has said... it's the last series that was commissioned, and they usually make decisions on future series once one has aired/they are working through what stuff they have for the next 6-12 months.

RE: The TV Gameshow Thread - eyeTV - 01-03-2023

I feel in this scenario it was probably better then for them to say nothing at all. It's obviously now lead to the media to run with the fact that it's been axed.

It's not really good practice to say anything about the future of a show whilst there is still a series to air.
