Thanks to the YouTube algorithm for this, but I wasn't aware that there was a studio-based show on the BBC 2004 that had some resemblance to the currently broadcasted format.

That passed me by at the time completely. It's pretty watchable.

I'm surprised no UK broadcaster picked up The Hustler, a Richard Bacon format that aired in the US in 2021, produced by Studio Lambert. That uses a quiz element in which one "hustler" out of 5 players knows the answers and gets to secretly eliminate two players before then having to survive being identified in the final 3.

RE: The Traitors - tellyblues - 04-02-2024

The Hustler seems too weak a format for the main UK channels but too expensive for the likes of Dave.

RE: The Traitors - Jon - 08-02-2024

I ended up watching quite a bit of the second Australian series. There is a lot of things I prefer about the UK production such as the host but in the end I enjoyed their series 2 better than ours. Perhaps a slightly shorter series and episode length helped.

The way contestant Sam controlled the game despite almost everyone believing they were a Traitor for the most part was fascinating viewing. Part of their game was also similar to Harry’s but their assent to the final was much less straight forward with them being a much bigger character

Even though I knew what was going to happen, thanks to the earlier post. The ending was very good and probably the appropriate one. I didn’t find it underwhelming

It's a very weak format so I can understand why it wasn't picked up.

I just finished it and it was both extremely frustrating and very entertaining. I actually think both sides played the game appallingly throughout and there were a lot of flukes rather than intelligent game play that led to the finalists being who they were, but fascinating to watch.

Even though he barely did anything, I couldn't stand the waiter character they introduced whose job was to just pull faces when on screen.

I still much preferred the UK version.

RE: The Traitors - Brekkie - 09-02-2024

Talking of which Alan Cumming doesn't seem to have his sidekick this year either.

A new twist in the US version this week not previously seen in the UK or main international shows.
Instead of the Roundtable there was an opportunity to protect all but 5 players from murder with an Immunity chain started by the Shield winners.

RE: The Traitors - mouseboy33 - 09-02-2024

But one of the players of TRAITORS US was very clever in how to crack the twist and figured out how to use it to his advantage. It was an extremely clever and well executed ploy. Unless the producers add a new rule, this hole in the game will be exploited by future players. But watching it play out was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS television. If you are a BIG BROTHER US/MTV CHALLENGE/SURVIVOR viewer....This was probably one of the best reality show casts ever assembled. its been incredible to watch. Big Brother US is a social and strategy game so those cast members fit so well with this format, so its been incredible to watch. Just wish we could see more of the strategy sessions we get on Big Brother live feeds (hehehehe)

Very good article about how the show is produced and the differences between the US and UK versions of the programme.

Good read.

RE: The Traitors - UTVLifer - 18-04-2024

Deadline are reporting that a celebrity version of The Traitors UK is on the cards, with it supposedly set to air late in 2025 after the third civilian series has aired

"Several sources have told us that an agreement between Studio Lambert, which makes the UK and U.S. versions of The Traitors, and the BBC, which broadcasts it, is close. The hope is that the first celeb version will film next year and go out later in 2025, by which time three seasons of the “civilian” version will have aired. Host Claudia Winkleman is expected to present the celeb version"
