Schedule shakeup at BBC Radio 3 - lookoutwales - 26-02-2024
A new look schedule coming to Radio 3 this Spring.

Among the things that jump out immediately, the long-running Friday Night is Music Night moves from Radio 2 and returns to a a regular slot having been disrupted by Covid for the past few years.
It has been running occasional specials on Sunday - and those will continue on R2 during the year.
Jools Holland presents a new show on Saturday lunchtime called “Earlier” (not surprisingly) while there’s a new late night jazz show on weekdays and Clive Myrie joins to present a new feature series called ‘Music on the Frontline’.
Two of Radio 3’s speech shows are also moving to Radio 4.

It will be interesting to see whether the extended breakfast gets more news bulletins. They used to be half-hourly throughout the programme, but the 0830 bulleti didn't return after the pandemic. Yet, they stil pause and hit the half-hour with weather but no news, which makes it feel conspicuously absent.
It would be good to resolve that. Would be a bit weird if they have half-hourly bulletins for the first half of the programme, then no news at all in the second half.
I guess Free Thinking moving across to Radio 4 will also mean a drastic cut in episode numbers - I can't see them making room for three new episodes a week - and probably puts paid to any hope of the annual Free Thinking festival returning.

Interesting to see the BBC move 3 programmes between 3 radio networks.
Whilst presenters move between stations, it’s relatively rare to see straight transfers of formats, compared to television.

The best place for it now, it was very out of place on modern Radio 2. Probably the last remaining legacy of the old Light Programme that mananged to linger on for so long.
